The list includes Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. These are selected titles—not every Mario, Zelda, or Pokémon game—and the enhancements differ by game. (Nintendo announcement, May 29, 2025)

Nintendo said the contents vary by game and may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare. The announcement does not provide a complete feature-by-feature account for every title, so do not assume the games receive identical improvements or promise a particular resolution, frame rate, or feature without checking that game’s current update notes. (Nintendo announcement)
Do you need to buy the game again?
Nintendo describes these enhancements as free updates for the named Switch games. The update is separate from buying the game: the announcement does not make the enhancement a paid upgrade, nor does it mean the game itself is free.

How to download a Switch game update
Nintendo says the Switch 2 must be connected to the internet and have a system update installed before downloading a listed game update. Starting an eligible game from the HOME Menu while online should prompt the download. For a manual check, Nintendo’s support instructions for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild give this route:
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet and install any required system update.
- On the HOME Menu, highlight the game’s software icon without starting the game.
- Press the + or – button.
- Select Software Update, then Via the Internet.
These manual steps are documented on Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild support page; menu wording or availability can depend on the software and console context. (Nintendo support: Breath of the Wild update information)

- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly
- Invite a second player* to join you as a gunner using Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls
Game updates and system updates are different
A game-specific update changes one title; a system update changes the Switch 2 software. Nintendo’s system update history lists version 23.0.0, released September 9, 2026. Its notes include GameChat changes, TV-mode VRR support when both the game and television support VRR, system transfer between Switch 2 systems, and a quick-settings control for Handheld Mode Boost. Nintendo cautions that Boost runs compatible Switch software as if in TV Mode, so certain functionality may be affected. (Nintendo Switch 2 system update history)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a useful example of title-specific support, but it was not named in Nintendo’s May 2025 enhancement announcement. Nintendo lists version 1.9.0, released February 17, 2026. For Switch 2, its notes add Thai text support, with English audio when the corresponding system settings are selected; the update also addresses several gameplay issues on both Switch 2 and Switch.
