It was the game’s first major post-launch update—not a new 2026 patch.
When Frostpunk 2 update 1.1.0 arrived
Neowin reported the update on October 21, 2024, while 11 bit studios’ version history dates version 1.1.0 to October 22, 2024. Neowin said PC owners could get it through Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG at the time. That is a historical availability report, not confirmation of current storefront or version status. Neowin’s October 21 report covered the release, and 11 bit studios’ version history and release notes list the update features.
What changed in the camera and city controls?
11 bit studios added edge scrolling, cursor lock and enhanced camera responsiveness. The changes give players additional ways to move around New London and manage a large city; the studio summarized the goal by saying, “The frozen landscape of New London is now more navigable than ever.”
- Edge scrolling: move the camera by bringing the cursor to the edge of the screen.
- Cursor lock: keep the cursor constrained while navigating, rather than having it drift beyond the game window.
- More responsive camera: the studio says camera responsiveness was enhanced, though the notes do not quantify the change.
Frostbreaking—the work of clearing frozen ground for city expansion—also became more flexible: players could select areas more freely and cancel Frostbreaking, as well as cancel construction.

What quality-of-life changes were included?
- Autosaves: adjust how often the game saves automatically or disable autosaves.
- Research visibility: ongoing research appears more prominently in the Idea Tree.
- District outlines: outlines gained color coding to make districts easier to distinguish.
- Cartography range: the range was extended, improving the reach of map information.
The studio described 1.1.0 as a broad quality-of-life update shaped by player feedback, with additional gameplay, balance, interface, art and audio changes. The release notes also include bug fixes.
Did update 1.1.0 improve performance?
11 bit studios described the work as “large-scale optimizations aimed at smoothing out your gameplay experience.” Neowin additionally reported updated DirectX libraries and broad performance improvements. Neither the studio’s notes nor Neowin’s report provides measured frame-rate, load-time or memory gains, so the announcement does not establish a specific performance increase or guarantee smoother play on every PC.

The update also addressed a crash involving the audio stack on certain macOS systems, according to the report and release notes. That is a specific fix; it should not be read as a general performance benchmark.

No: the October 2024 coverage described 1.1.0 as a PC update. Later announcements provide separate console context, not evidence that this 2024 patch was released for consoles. In July 2025, 5th Planet Games announced physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, including Icebreaker and Whiteout editions. In September 2025, Xbox Wire described the game’s Xbox gamepad interface and said it was available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass at that time; Game Pass availability can change. These later platform details do not establish current physical-edition stock or availability of update 1.1.0 on consoles. 5th Planet Games’ physical-edition announcement and Xbox Wire’s September 2025 article cover that later console context.
