Game Freak confirmed that an August 2024 intrusion exposed names and company email addresses associated with 2,606 employee and contract-worker records. Separately, contemporaneous reports described a large archive of alleged Pokémon development material and said it contained a codename for Nintendo’s next console. The company’s notice confirms the breach and personal-data exposure—not the alleged game files, archive size, or console codename.
What did Game Freak confirm?
In a notice dated October 10, 2024, Game Freak said a third party gained unauthorized access to a company server in August and that personal information was leaked. The company listed names and company email addresses and reported 2,606 affected records involving employees and contract workers, including former employees. Nintendo Everything reproduced the notice in English translation.

What was reportedly in the circulating archive?
Reports published around October 12 described files said to be linked to the intrusion, including alleged internal game, design, and project materials. Some outlets described the archive as exceeding one terabyte, but that was a reported claim about circulating files—not a measurement published or verified by Game Freak. Le Monde reported on the circulating material and noted that Game Freak had not confirmed the veracity of game-related files. Game Developer also distinguished the breach confirmation from the reported leak contents.

Was the Switch 2 codename confirmed?
No—not by Game Freak. Reports attributed a codename for Nintendo’s successor to the Switch to alleged material from the leak. That claim is distinct from the company’s confirmed disclosure of unauthorized access and exposed personal information; the October 10 notice does not authenticate the alleged project files or confirm a console codename. Le Monde and Game Developer reported on the alleged material without treating it as verified by Game Freak.
