Nintendo’s GameCube Classics collection is available on Nintendo Switch 2 with an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. It launched on June 6, 2025, and Nintendo Australia’s catalog currently lists 11 included games, with Pokémon Colosseum marked as upcoming but undated.
What you need to play GameCube games on Switch 2
- A Nintendo Switch 2: The GameCube Classics app is exclusive to this console; it does not run on the original Nintendo Switch.
- Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: The standard Nintendo Switch Online membership does not include the GameCube collection. Access continues while the higher-tier membership is active. Nintendo’s membership FAQ says you can play offline for up to seven consecutive days before connecting to verify your membership.
Nintendo says classic games are not planned for individual sale outside Nintendo Switch Online. If you cancel or let your membership lapse, the collection is no longer available to play through the service.

Which GameCube games are on Switch 2?
Nintendo Australia’s catalog lists these 11 games as included. This is the lineup shown on that regional page, not a guarantee that every region has an identical catalog.

The catalog has grown since launch. Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX and SOULCALIBUR II as the initial three games, available from June 6, 2025, one day after Switch 2 launched. Nintendo later announced Super Mario Sunshine on August 13, 2026, and Star Fox Adventures on September 16, 2026. Nintendo identifies Star Fox Adventures as a 2002 GameCube release and says its Switch 2 version includes a 16:9 on-screen display option.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Nintendo says the collection will continue to grow but has not set a release schedule. Pokémon Colosseum is listed as upcoming on the Australian catalog page, but Nintendo gives no date there; its arrival or timing elsewhere should not be assumed.
How the Switch 2 versions differ from the originals
Nintendo describes these as reproductions for Switch 2 and cautions that performance and presentation can differ from the original games. It promotes clearer image quality and higher resolution, along with save-anytime functionality and per-game control customization. Those features do not mean every game has identical presentation or behavior to its GameCube release.
Local, local wireless and online play are available in compatible games, with up to four players supported in those titles. Multiplayer is not a collection-wide guarantee: check the details for a particular game before planning a session.

Controllers: the GameCube-style pad is optional
Nintendo’s wireless Nintendo GameCube Controller is designed for the collection, but it is not required. Joy-Con 2 and other supported controllers are alternatives, and controls can be customized within individual GameCube Classics games.
Nintendo Support describes the official controller as wireless and USB-C rechargeable, with a GameChat C Button. Button remapping for GameCube Classics is handled in each game rather than in general System Settings. Nintendo’s U.S. and Canada support page lists it at $64.99 USD or $84.99 CAD before tax and shipping, sold through Nintendo Store to paid members, with a one-per-Nintendo-Account limit. Price and availability are region-specific and can change.
Nintendo also lists the Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter as compatible with Switch 2 in TV mode through the dock’s USB port. That general compatibility listing does not specifically confirm how the adapter works in the GameCube Classics app.

Is the Expansion Pack worth it for GameCube games?
The decision depends on the games you want and how you prefer to play. Compare the regional catalog with your must-play list: membership provides access to the available collection, not a promise that every GameCube favorite will be added. The lack of a fixed release schedule also means an upcoming game should not be treated as an imminent addition.
- Consider it if Switch 2 is your console, you want several games already in the catalog, and ongoing membership access suits you.
- Think carefully if you want only one specific game, need permanent ownership, or are waiting for an undated title.
- Choose your setup based on preference: the official GameCube-style controller is optional, and supported alternatives are available.
For context, Nintendo of America described its overall Nintendo Classics library as containing over 270 titles in a June 2026 promotion. That figure covers several systems, not the GameCube collection alone. Nintendo Australia’s 11 included titles are the count on that region’s catalog page.
