Cyberpunk 2077 is the futuristic open-world option
Consider Cyberpunk 2077 if you want an authored open world with RPG structure but are ready for a much more pronounced change in setting. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as an open-world action-adventure RPG set in Night City. Its official description presents the player character, V, as a mercenary fighting for survival in a dangerous future city.
Who is most likely to enjoy the switch
- You want an RPG: The publisher’s description explicitly identifies the game as an RPG, making it relevant if role-playing structure is high on your list.
- You are open to science fiction: Night City and the game’s future-city premise are central differences, not cosmetic variations on a Western backdrop.
