A comfortable gaming posture comes down to a handful of setup points rather than one “correct” way to sit: the top edge of the screen at or below eye level, a viewing distance where you can read without leaning, a keyboard and mouse placed so your arms and wrists don’t have to reach or bend sharply, and a chair that supports your back and lets your feet rest on the floor or a footrest.
Those points come from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) computer-workstation guidance, which is written for workplaces. OSHA does not study gamers, and these materials do not measure gaming-related pain or injury. They also do not show that any particular posture, chair or peripheral causes or cures a condition. Use the setup below as a practical starting point, not a diagnosis.
Position the screen first
Set up the screen before anything else, because the monitor’s distance and height determine how you hold your head, neck and shoulders for the whole session. OSHA recommends placing the monitor directly in front of you and at least 20 inches away. Its general preferred viewing distance is 20 to 40 inches (50 to 100 cm). That range is a guideline; the real test is whether you can read the text comfortably without leaning forward. OSHA also says the top line of the screen should be at or below eye level, and that the screen, keyboard, desk and chair should be arranged as one system rather than adjusted separately (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Monitors).
Quick screen checks
- Distance: Sit back in your normal gaming position. If you have to lean in to read the interface or subtitles, move the screen closer or make the text larger in the game’s display settings.
- Height: Look straight ahead. If the top of the screen sits above eye level so you tilt your head back, lower the monitor or raise your chair. If the screen is so low that you hunch to see the top, raise it.
- Riser or stand (conditional): A monitor stand or riser is useful only when the current setup leaves the screen too low. It is not required for every desk, and it does not change the distance rules above.
Set the chair so your back and legs are supported
OSHA describes an appropriately adjusted chair as one that supports your back, legs, buttocks and arms, and it says adjustability improves fit across different sitting positions. OSHA recommends trying different chairs before you buy one (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Chairs). The point is fit and support, not a product category. These sources do not establish that gaming chairs perform better than office chairs, so judge any chair by how well it adjusts to your body and desk.

- Most Comfortable And Relaxing: Equipped with headrest and lumbar pillow. When your neck feels sore from gaming or working with head down for a long time, the headrest will relieve your fatigue. When tired from maintaining a same sitting posture, please rest assured to lean back and charge your waist pillow, it will relax your tired waist energetically.
- More Stable Than Others: Common gaming chairs are equipped with plastic legs generally to save costs, but we still insist on applying the same material as the built-in metal frame. No fear of high or low temperature, no fear of the sunshine, no fear of wind, it will not rust and break. Whether child rolls on the chair or a pet jumps up excitedly, the sturdy metal legs will keep the chair stable firmly.
- Liberate Your Feet: Will you feel tired for sitting all the time? Sure. Then you can choose the chair with footrest to relax your feet. When you don’t want to straighten your back and sit, just take out the footrest, put your feet up, turn on your favorite music, and start enjoying the comfort! And don’t worry about clean, it is also made of high-quality PU leather, just wipe it with a soft cloth and it will shine as new.
- Reject Short-Lived Chairs: We never hesitate to apply materials. Armrests must be padded from the position of the elbow to the wrist, built-in metal frame must be wider, and the foam under the leather must be rich, it can’t collapse as if we are sitting on a hard stone when leaning up. The chair has gone through thousands of rotation and sitting experiments before mass production. Sufficient and premium materials can ensure the chair to withstand long-term use.
- Worry-Free Purchase: A detailed instruction will be sent to you along with all accessories so that you can assemble the chair easily. Free replacement or refund within 30 days. Free replacement or repair within 1 year. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact us, we will do our best to make our customers satisfied.
Adjustment order
- Set seat height first. Aim for thighs roughly parallel to the floor, or hips slightly higher than knees. OSHA’s general posture guidance describes this position (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Good Working Positions).
- Check your feet. They should be supported by the floor. If your desk height prevents a workable chair position with feet on the floor, use a footrest rather than letting your feet dangle.
- Set the backrest so it supports your lower and mid back. Adjust the tilt if the chair offers it, and avoid sitting so far forward that your back loses contact with the backrest.
- Set the armrests so they support your forearms without lifting your shoulders. Your shoulders should stay relaxed.
- Only then adjust the desk and keyboard to suit this seat height, so that the keyboard arrangement below works.
Chair buying checklist
- Seat height adjustment that reaches the position above.
- Backrest support and tilt control that hold your back in a supported position.
- Armrests you can raise, lower and, if needed, move aside.
- Feet supported by the floor or a footrest that fits under your desk.
- Controls you can reach without leaning or twisting.
Products in the category of an adjustable computer chair cover this list. A desk footrest is the secondary item to consider when the desk height, rather than the chair, is the limiting factor.
Place the keyboard and mouse within easy reach
OSHA’s keyboard guidance says to place the keyboard directly in front of you, keep your shoulders relaxed and your elbows close to your body, and keep your wrists straight and in line with your forearms. If your wrists have to bend sharply up, down or sideways, adjust the keyboard or chair height (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Keyboards).

Mouse placement
OSHA advises keeping the mouse close to the keyboard so you do not have to reach. It states that a distant mouse can contribute to awkward posture, contact stress or forceful hand exertion (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Pointer/Mouse). Some gamers use a large mousing area or a separate control device; if you do, keep the same principle of short reach and straight wrists. No specific gaming peripheral is shown by these sources to prevent injury, so choose equipment for comfort and fit.

Move during long sessions
OSHA’s guidance is direct on this point: “Regardless of how good your working posture is, working in the same posture or sitting still for prolonged periods is not healthy” (OSHA, Computer Workstations: Good Working Positions). That means no single setup should be held rigidly for hours, however well it fits.
OSHA’s materials recommend varying posture and taking short rest pauses. One of its keyboard pages gives an example of a five-minute break every hour (OSHA, Keyboards). That is workplace guidance, not a schedule tested with gamers. For a long session, the same principle can be applied at natural pause points, such as between matches, while a level loads, or during a menu break: stand, stretch your shoulders and hands, and reset your seated position when you sit back down.

When to get professional advice
- Pain, numbness or tingling in the hands, wrists, arms, neck or back that continues after setup changes.
- Symptoms that worsen during or after play, or that wake you at night.
- Any concern that a physical limitation is affecting how you can sit or use your hands.
In those cases, speak with a qualified healthcare professional. A setup change can improve fit, but it does not replace an individual assessment.
