Gardens Interactive announced a Series B financing of more than $35 million on October 7, 2026, led by Lightspeed. The company said the funding will support the launch and live operations of its debut game, which has not yet been publicly named. Gardens also said additional closings were still in progress, so the announcement does not establish the round’s final total.

How much did Gardens Interactive raise?

Gardens announced that it had secured more than $35 million in Series B funding. At the time of the announcement, the company said it was finalizing additional closings on a rolling basis and expected the round to close by the end of October 2026. The $35M+ figure is therefore the announced amount, not a confirmed final close or final round total. Gardens Interactive’s October 7 announcement is the source for the amount and timing.

The company did not disclose a valuation. An investor-side account also corroborated the announced Series B, but the company announcement remains the source for the round’s stated amount and closing qualification. Transcend’s account of its investment provides that investor perspective.

Who invested in the Series B?

Lightspeed led the round. Gardens named the following firms, family offices, and individual investors in the investor group:

The announcement does not specify each participant’s individual investment amount. Gardens’ announcement lists the named participants.

What game is Gardens Interactive making?

The debut game has not been publicly named. Gardens describes it as a social roleplaying game set in a changing shared world. Co-founder and creative director Chris Bell calls the approach “strandbox”: a sandbox where players’ actions persist for people who arrive later. The studio says its in-house Petri engine combines procedural generation with authored content; that is Gardens’ description of its technology, not an independent technical assessment.

A shared fantasy wilderness

On its press page, Gardens describes the upcoming flagship as a shared fantasy adventure in a shapeshifting wilderness, with mystery, magic, and tactile multiplayer play. The two official descriptions establish the broad concept, but do not provide a public game title, publisher, confirmed platforms, release date, price, or public product listing. Gardens’ press page gives the studio’s current public description of the project.

Funding is aimed at launch and live operations

Gardens said the financing will support the game’s upcoming launch and live operations. CEO Stephen Bell described the goal as having room “to ship a game of this scale properly, and to keep it alive and evolving for years to come.” That statement explains the company’s intended use of the funding; it is not a guarantee of a launch date or of the game’s long-term prospects.

What does the Journey and Sky connection mean?

Gardens is a distributed studio founded in May 2021. Its team includes developers with credits on Journey, What Remains of Edith Finch, Sky: Children of the Light, Blaseball, Dustforce, and Guild Wars 2. Chris Bell, the studio’s co-founder and creative director, is credited with work on Journey and Sky: Children of the Light; Stephen Bell is co-founder and CEO.

These are team members’ previous credits. They do not mean Gardens made those games, or that their original studios are involved in this financing. Gardens’ official press page identifies its founders and summarizes the team’s credits.
