Gears of War: Reloaded, a remaster of the 2006 original, launched on August 26, 2025. It is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. Players can team up for two-player campaign co-op or play Versus matches with up to eight players.
Where can you play Gears of War: Reloaded?
The Coalition announced Gears of War: Reloaded on May 5, 2025, and released it on August 26, 2025. Xbox Wire lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam as platforms. The game is therefore already available; the announcement is not a forthcoming release. Xbox Wire’s announcement gave a U.S. suggested retail price of $39.99 at launch and said the game was included in PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. That is a dated launch figure, not a current price or a guarantee of availability in every region or subscription catalog.
Does Gears of War: Reloaded have cross-play?
Yes. Players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam can play together in campaign co-op and Versus. Xbox Wire specifies two-player campaign co-op and Versus matches for up to eight players. Campaign co-op is split-screen on supported platforms, but the Xbox store details say campaign split-screen is unavailable on PC and handhelds.
Microsoft account requirements depend on what you want to do
Cross-play and cross-progression are separate features. The May 5 announcement says cross-play does not require a Microsoft account; signing in enables cross-progression and cross-platform invites. However, Xbox Wire’s August 26 launch-day article says every party member must sign in to a Microsoft account for cross-platform parties. The two official descriptions differ on the party sign-in condition, so check the current in-game prompts and account requirements when forming a cross-platform party rather than assuming that account sign-in is never needed.

With a Microsoft account, campaign and multiplayer progression can carry across devices, according to Xbox Wire’s launch-day article. The current Steam listing also says a Microsoft account is required for cross-progression. PlayStation’s product page confirms cross-play and campaign save transfer.
What does Reloaded include?
The remaster brings back the original game and includes the Ultimate Edition’s post-launch content at no additional cost: a bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps and modes, characters, and cosmetics. The campaign supports two players in co-op; Versus supports up to eight.

The Coalition describes the visual and audio upgrades as including remastered textures, improved shadows and reflections, 4K resolution and assets, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 7.1 spatial audio, variable refresh rate, and no loading screens during the campaign. Xbox Wire specifies a 60 FPS campaign and 120 FPS multiplayer. These are platform-dependent capabilities, and 4K, HDR, and high frame rates require compatible hardware and displays; they are not a promise that every platform will deliver every feature.

What was the announcement about?
The May 2025 reveal marked the original Gears of War’s first arrival on PlayStation and emphasized cross-play and cross-progression across platforms. Mike Crump, studio head at The Coalition, called bringing back the game that started the series and making it available on more platforms a fitting way to begin a celebration of Gears’ 20 years.
