GeForce NOW’s 100-Hour Cap Explained: How Much Monthly Playtime Do You Get?

GeForce NOW’s 100-hour limit applies to premium playtime on Performance and Ultimate, but it does not lock you out. Here’s how billing resets, rollover, Founders access and extra hours work.

GeForce NOW Performance and Ultimate members receive 100 hours of premium playtime per billing month, not necessarily per calendar month. Up to 15 unused hours can roll over. Reaching zero does not completely disable GeForce NOW: you can buy more premium hours, continue with the basic experience until your next reset, or wait for the allowance to renew.

The important exception is base Founders membership, which NVIDIA says retains unlimited playtime while the membership remains active and eligible. Founders members who upgrade to Ultimate become subject to the 100-hour limit.

The 100-hour limit at a glance

Question Answer
Which plans include 100 hours? Performance and Ultimate
What kind of hours are they? Premium playtime
When does the allowance reset? Monthly, on your billing-cycle reset date
How much can roll over? Up to 15 unused hours
What happens at zero? Buy more premium hours, use the basic experience, or wait for the reset
Does Ultimate include more hours? No. Performance and Ultimate both include 100 hours

NVIDIA says the limit is intended to help preserve streaming quality, service speed and shorter queues for premium members. The company has previously said that a minority of users exceed the allowance, but that is NVIDIA’s own claim rather than an independently verified measurement. NVIDIA’s current FAQ is the authority for your account’s entitlement.

How much gaming is 100 hours?

For planning purposes, divide the allowance by the number of days in your billing month. In a 30-day period, 100 hours works out to about 3 hours and 20 minutes per day, or roughly 23 hours and 20 minutes per week.

Average use Approximate monthly total
1 hour per day 28–31 hours
2 hours per day 56–62 hours
3 hours per day 84–93 hours
3 hours 20 minutes per day About 100 hours in a 30-day month
4 hours per day 112–124 hours
5 hours per day 140–155 hours

Use this estimate:

monthly hours = average hours per gaming day × gaming days per month

For example, 2.5 hours on each of 30 days is 75 hours. Four hours on each of 30 days is 120 hours. Add some margin for holidays, new releases and sessions accidentally left running. Someone estimating exactly 100 hours is already at risk of exceeding the allowance.

  • Under 60 hours: the cap is unlikely to matter.
  • 60–90 hours: normally manageable, especially with rollover.
  • 90–115 hours: the limit may become noticeable.
  • Above 115 hours: plan for top-ups, basic access, another service or local hardware.

It is a billing-month limit, not a calendar-month limit

Your allowance does not universally reset on the first day of the month. It follows your GeForce NOW billing cycle. A subscriber billed on the 18th may have a period running from August 18 to September 18, for example.

To check your dates:

  1. Sign in to the GeForce NOW account portal.
  2. Open the membership or account area.
  3. Find your remaining playtime and next reset date.
  4. Use that date—not the first of the calendar month—as the start of your next allowance.

NVIDIA does not publish one guaranteed menu path for every region, account version or Alliance Partner. If your account is billed through a partner, prices, payment arrangements and terms may differ. NVIDIA’s terms of use explain that partner services can have separate conditions.

What happens after you use all 100 hours?

Hitting zero is not a total GeForce NOW ban. NVIDIA describes three practical choices:

1. Buy additional premium hours

Additional hours are offered through the Account Portal. They restore continued premium access, including the premium experience associated with your plan. Check the live portal for the amount, price and availability in your country.

NVIDIA previously announced 15-hour top-ups priced at $2.99 for Performance and $5.99 for Ultimate. Those are historical figures from an earlier announcement, not confirmed current prices for every market. Do not assume they remain unchanged.

2. Continue with the basic experience

You can keep playing with the basic or free-user experience until your next reset. That may mean basic rigs, longer queues and the loss of other premium-member benefits. NVIDIA does not promise a particular queue time or hardware tier after exhaustion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Wait for the reset

Your premium allowance renews monthly on the date shown in the Account Portal. Buying another month of membership should not automatically be treated as an immediate reset; the account’s billing cycle and plan state control the entitlement.

How rollover works

Up to 15 unused hours carry into the next month. Rollover is capped, so it is not a permanent bank of accumulated playtime.

Used this month Hours carried over Available next month
100 hours 0 100
90 hours 10 110
70 hours 15 115
20 hours 15 115

The standard included allowance is 100 hours; 115 is the maximum in a month with a full 15-hour rollover. Purchased hours are a separate entitlement. Check the purchase screen or account terms for their expiry, carryover and stacking rules.

What counts toward the allowance?

The allowance is based on GeForce NOW playtime during your billing period. NVIDIA publicly confirms the balance and reset date, but does not provide a universal public minute-by-minute explanation covering every idle-session scenario.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

As a practical precaution, end a session when you finish playing rather than leaving a game or desktop open. Do not assume that merely owning a game, installing it or remaining subscribed consumes hours; actual service use is the relevant concern. Also avoid relying on an exact idle timeout unless your current interface or terms states one.

Founders members are the major exception

NVIDIA says a base Founders membership includes unlimited playtime for life while the membership remains active and does not lapse. That benefit should not be confused with every historical account described as “Founders.” Eligibility can depend on how and where the membership was billed.

Upgrading a Founders account to Ultimate changes the situation: NVIDIA says the upgraded account becomes subject to the monthly playtime limit. Unlimited playtime resumes only if the member returns to the base Founders membership, where that option remains available. A payment interruption or cancellation may also affect eligibility, so verify your account before changing plans.

What happened to grandfathered unlimited access?

NVIDIA’s current FAQ says users grandfathered into unlimited playtime through a qualifying subscription purchase before January 15, 2026 retained it only until their first billing date after January 15. After that billing date, the account moved to the 100-hour allowance, up to 15 hours of rollover and paid additional hours.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That means January 15 was the policy date used in NVIDIA’s grandfathering language; it was not necessarily the day every account lost unlimited access. The individual billing date controlled the transition.

Does Ultimate solve the cap?

No. Ultimate provides a higher performance tier, not a larger monthly allowance. Both Performance and Ultimate receive 100 premium hours.

Ultimate can still make sense if you want higher-end RTX hardware, higher resolution or higher frame rates and normally stay below 100 hours. It is a poor solution if your only problem is insufficient monthly playtime.

Install-to-Play after the allowance ends

NVIDIA says that beginning April 30, 2026, premium members can still access eligible Install-to-Play games after exhausting their premium hours without buying extra hours. This does not mean unlimited premium streaming or continued access to every premium benefit.

Install-to-Play applies only to eligible games and depends on publisher participation. Availability and functionality can change. Consult NVIDIA’s How to Play information and membership terms for the current conditions.

Which response is cheapest for heavy users?

Stay on Performance

Choose this if you normally remain below 100 hours and do not need Ultimate’s hardware and display features. It does not provide more hours than Ultimate.

Buy extra hours occasionally

This is usually the simplest answer for a launch month, holiday or short-term spike. Compare the live top-up price with the cost of a second service before making it a routine expense.

Use the basic experience

This avoids another payment if you can tolerate longer queues and lower-tier hardware. It also removes much of the reason for paying for a premium plan.

Consider a day pass

NVIDIA’s U.S. marketplace displayed Performance and Ultimate day passes at $3.99 and $7.99 respectively at the August 16, 2026 snapshot. Verify current pricing and whether day-pass time interacts with an existing monthly allowance before treating it as a workaround.

Keep base Founders status

If you have eligible base Founders access, calculate the value of unlimited playtime before upgrading. Moving to Ultimate can trade that benefit for better hardware while introducing the 100-hour limit.

Move to local hardware or another cloud service

A local gaming PC avoids a cloud-playtime cap and supports offline play, mods and broader software control, but requires a substantial upfront purchase and ongoing maintenance. Services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, Boosteroid and Shadow PC use different catalogs, hardware, prices, regions and session policies. Compare their current terms directly rather than assuming they offer the same model as GeForce NOW.

If your account shows the wrong limit

  1. Confirm the current plan name.
  2. Check whether NVIDIA or an Alliance Partner bills the account.
  3. Verify the next reset date.
  4. Check whether the account is base Founders or a Founders-to-Ultimate upgrade.
  5. Confirm the membership has not lapsed.
  6. Sign out and back into the Account Portal.
  7. Contact NVIDIA Support if the displayed entitlement conflicts with your membership terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Free plan get the same 100-hour allowance?

NVIDIA’s current FAQ assigns the 100-hour premium allowance to Performance and Ultimate. Do not assume Free members receive the same allowance. A paid member who exhausts premium hours can continue with the basic/free-user experience.

Do unused GeForce NOW hours roll over forever?

No. Up to 15 unused included hours can roll into the next month. The balance does not accumulate without limit.

Can I keep playing after 100 hours?

Yes. You can buy additional premium hours, continue with the basic experience until the next reset, or wait for the monthly renewal.

Does Install-to-Play mean I get unlimited premium streaming?

No. NVIDIA says eligible Install-to-Play games remain accessible after premium-hour exhaustion, but that feature is not universal premium access and depends on game and publisher eligibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are additional-hour prices the same everywhere?

Not necessarily. Check the Account Portal for your country, plan and account. NVIDIA’s previously announced top-up prices should not be assumed to be current worldwide.

The Bottom Line

For most players, 100 premium hours is workable. If you regularly average more than about three hours a day, monitor your billing-cycle balance early, use rollover strategically and compare the cost of occasional top-ups with the value of local hardware or another service. Do not upgrade to Ultimate expecting more hours—and if you are a base Founders member, check the cost of giving up unlimited playtime before changing plans.
