geronimo.dll is a private component of the NVIDIA GeForce NOW Windows client, not a Windows system DLL. If geronimo.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall GeForce NOW instead of downloading the DLL separately.
The file is commonly found in a path similar to:
%LOCALAPPDATA%NVIDIA CorporationGeForceNOWCEFGeronimo.dll
The exact folder can differ between client versions and installation states. Public package inventories place it alongside GeForceNOW.exe, libcef.dll, and other GeForce NOW files in the client’s embedded Chromium/CEF directory.

Fix 1: Close GeForce NOW and reinstall it
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely fix for geronimo.dll errors. An interrupted update, damaged file, or locked installation can leave the client without a usable copy of the DLL.
Close every GeForce NOW process
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Processes.
- Select every process whose name begins with GeForce or clearly belongs to GeForce NOW.
- Click End task for each one.
- Also close any installer, updater, backup, cleanup, or security window that may be accessing the GeForce NOW folder.
NVIDIA specifically identifies active GeForce NOW processes and files being used in its installation directory as possible installation blockers.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Reinstall from NVIDIA
- Open the official NVIDIA GeForce NOW download page in your browser.
- Download the current Windows client.
- Run the installer.
- Start GeForce NOW after the installation completes.
Do not obtain geronimo.dll from a DLL index, file-sharing page, or a random download site. The correct file must match the rest of the installed GeForce NOW client.
If the installer reports that GeForce NOW is already installed or cannot overwrite files, continue with a clean reinstall.
Perform a clean reinstall if necessary
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select NVIDIA GeForce NOW.
- Click Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download and install GeForce NOW again from NVIDIA’s official download page.
If Windows cannot remove the program, restart first and repeat the uninstall process before trying the installer again.

The repair succeeded if GeForce NOW opens without a geronimo.dll message and you can reach the sign-in or game-launch screen. If the same message returns immediately, check antivirus history before repeating the installation.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine and protection history
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software may quarantine an application DLL, or it may block the installer from writing into the GeForce NOW folder. A quarantine event is not proof that the file is malicious, and no available evidence establishes geronimo.dll as malware. Verify what your security software actually reported.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
Geronimo.dll, GeForce NOW, or the NVIDIA installation folder. - Review the detection name, file location, and action taken.
If the file was quarantined and the detection is clearly a false positive, restore it only when you are certain it came from the official NVIDIA installation. Then reinstall GeForce NOW so the vendor package supplies a clean, matching copy.
Do not download a replacement DLL after quarantine. If security software removes the file again, update the security definitions, check the detection details, and contact NVIDIA support or your security vendor rather than forcing an unrelated DLL into the folder.

How to tell whether it worked
After restoring or allowing the official installation, reinstall GeForce NOW and launch it. If the file disappears again, the security product is still blocking it. Leave the client uninstalled until you understand the detection instead of downloading a substitute file.
Fix 3: Remove manually copied DLL files
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
If you previously copied geronimo.dll into the GeForce NOW directory, System32, or SysWOW64, that copy may be from a different client build or architecture. A mismatched file can produce messages such as:
- The code execution cannot proceed because
geronimo.dllwas not found. geronimo.dllis either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.- The specified module could not be found.
- An invalid image-format error such as
0xc000007b.
Remove the incorrect copy
- Uninstall GeForce NOW from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, if possible.
- Restart Windows.
- Do not copy DLL files into
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Install GeForce NOW again using the official NVIDIA installer.
Avoid deleting files from a working installation manually unless the installer or NVIDIA support directs you to do so. The reinstall should replace damaged application files with a matching set.
Why regsvr32 is normally wrong here
regsvr32 is a registration utility for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL installer. Microsoft documents its purpose in the regsvr32 command reference.
There is no public evidence that GeForce NOW’s Geronimo.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component. Do not run:
regsvr32 geronimo.dll
That command will not recreate a missing file and may return an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found.
How to tell whether it worked
A correct installation should start without registration. If the client still fails, continue with the antivirus and Windows checks below rather than registering the DLL.

Fix 4: Repair Windows components only when other programs are failing
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows system components. They do not normally recreate a proprietary GeForce NOW DLL, so they are not the first fix for an isolated geronimo.dll message.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Use them when Windows Update is failing, several unrelated applications report missing system files, or installers behave abnormally.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and reinstall GeForce NOW.
Microsoft provides the standard System File Checker repair procedure.
If you want to avoid repeatedly guessing which Windows component needs repair, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it finds; repairs are performed by the full version. Reinstalling GeForce NOW remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that client.
How to tell whether it worked
If DISM or SFC reports repaired Windows components, restart and test GeForce NOW again. If the same DLL message remains while other applications work normally, return to the GeForce NOW reinstall rather than repeating system repairs.
Fix 5: Confirm that Windows meets the client requirement
Time needed: 5 minutes
The current native GeForce NOW PC application requires 64-bit Windows 10 or later. This does not establish whether Geronimo.dll itself has a particular bitness, but it does mean that 32-bit Windows is not solved by copying a 32-bit DLL.
Check your Windows architecture
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Find System type.
- Confirm that the system is running a 64-bit version of Windows.
If the computer runs 32-bit Windows, install the current client only after moving to a supported 64-bit Windows installation. Do not search for a special DLL version as a workaround.

How to tell whether it worked
On supported 64-bit Windows, reinstall the current GeForce NOW client. On unsupported 32-bit Windows, the application may remain unavailable until Windows itself meets the requirement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 6: Update Windows and investigate driver problems only when indicated
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
A display-driver reinstall is lower priority because Geronimo.dll is documented in the GeForce NOW application directory, not as a normal NVIDIA graphics-driver file. Use this step when Device Manager shows a graphics error, other GPU applications also fail, or Windows reports a driver problem.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the NVIDIA adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Also install pending Windows updates through Settings > Windows Update.
If several devices show warning icons, or games and other GPU applications fail, download the display driver from NVIDIA’s official support channel and reinstall it. Do not expect a driver update alone to restore a missing GeForce NOW application file.
When checking dozens of driver versions manually is slowing down troubleshooting, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; installation through the full version is optional. For this specific error, reinstalling GeForce NOW remains the primary repair.

The driver step helped only if the broader graphics symptoms disappear and GeForce NOW then starts normally. If only GeForce NOW reports geronimo.dll, return to the client reinstall and security-history checks.
Common causes of the error
| Cause | What it means | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete update | The client update stopped before all files were written | Close processes and reinstall GeForce NOW |
| Damaged installation | Geronimo.dll or a related CEF file is corrupt |
Uninstall, restart, and reinstall |
| Antivirus quarantine | Security software removed or blocked the file | Check protection history and reinstall from NVIDIA |
| Locked files | Another process is using the GeForce NOW folder | End GeForce processes and restart Windows |
| Manual DLL copy | The file does not match the installed client | Remove the copy and reinstall the client |
| Windows corruption | Several applications or Windows features also fail | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Graphics-driver issue | Other GPU software also reports driver failures | Update or reinstall the display driver |
The exact internal function of Geronimo.dll, its publisher metadata, supported versions, file size, and standalone distribution are not publicly documented. Do not rely on version or hash claims from unofficial DLL listings.
What the error messages mean
The Windows loader may display variations such as “missing from your computer,” “was not found,” “specified module could not be found,” or “not designed to run on Windows.” These messages do not prove that the named file alone is the complete problem. A dependent file, damaged installation, blocked access, or incompatible manually copied DLL can produce similar wording.

A user report may describe GeForce NOW closing because of geronimo.dll, but that is anecdotal rather than an NVIDIA-confirmed diagnostic. Treat the message as a reason to repair the client, not as proof of a Windows-wide failure.
FAQ
Is geronimo.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows system DLL, Microsoft runtime, DirectX component, or normal graphics-driver file. Available package evidence places it inside GeForce NOW’s application directory.
Can I download geronimo.dll by itself?
No. Random DLL sites can provide malware, an incorrect build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of GeForce NOW. Use the official NVIDIA GeForce NOW installer.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. GeForce NOW expects its own application files in its installation directory. Copying the DLL to System32 or SysWOW64 does not repair the client and can create additional version conflicts.
Should I run regsvr32?
Normally no. regsvr32 is for self-registering DLLs, and there is no public evidence that this GeForce NOW component requires registration.
What if reinstalling does not help?
Check antivirus quarantine immediately after installation, confirm that GeForce NOW processes are closed, install pending Windows updates, and test with a new Windows user profile. If the file is repeatedly removed or the installer fails, provide NVIDIA support with the installer logs and the security-history details.
Can I use GeForce NOW in a browser?
If only the native Windows application fails, the supported browser experience can temporarily help distinguish an application-installation problem from an account or service problem. Some native-app settings may not be available in the browser.
