Best Mythic Tales, ranked
1. The Spirit of Yarikawa’s Vengeance
This tale takes the top spot for its eerie rumors, strong atmosphere and duel-centered payoff. Its reward, Dance of Wrath, is a three-attack technique that costs three resolve, making it a potent option for players who like to spend resolve on burst damage. The cost makes it less attractive if you prefer to save resolve for healing or other techniques.
2. The Heavenly Strike
A compact, practical choice that earns its place near the top. It unlocks a quick, unblockable attack for one resolve, so it is the best early priority if you want a direct addition to Jin’s combat options rather than armor or a ranged weapon.

3. The Legend of Tadayori
Choose this tale if archery is central to your approach. Tadayori’s Armour is aimed at ranged combat: its listed effects include faster nocking and reloading, longer Concentration, and restoring Concentration with headshots. That package is useful to a bow-focused build, though less compelling if you rarely fight at range.
4. The Unbreakable Gosaku
This is a satisfying reward chase for players who favor durability and stagger pressure. Gosaku’s Armour increases health and stagger damage, and restores health after Jin kills a staggered enemy. The quest asks you to collect keys from six captured farmsteads, giving it a broader objective than a simple trail of clues.

5. The Curse of Uchitsune
The search for locations depicted in paintings gives this tale a distinctive investigation hook, followed by a duel. Its reward is the Longbow, a high-damage weapon with zoom and a longer draw time. It suits players who want more range and power, but that slower draw is a trade-off rather than a universal upgrade.
6. The Undying Flame
Set on Mount Jogaku, this tale rewards Incendiary Oil for Jin’s sword. The setting gives it a clear sense of place, and the reward offers a sword-enhancing option for players who want to add fire to close-quarters combat. The available guide description does not detail its exact effects, so its value is best judged by whether that style appeals to you.

PowerPyx includes this Toyotama tale in its seven-tale list, but the available inventory description does not specify its reward. Check its in-game reward before choosing it specifically for equipment or a technique.

There are seven in the inventory used here. The count differs across guides: GamesRadar lists six, while PowerPyx lists seven, counting The Six Blades of Kojiro. That is a difference in guide inventories, not evidence that the game has a different quest set for different players.

Unlocking and completing the tales
Mythic Tales span the island’s regions and unlock as the main story progresses. If a tale is unavailable, continue the story and check again later. According to PowerPyx, the tales are not missable: you can finish them in free roam after the main story, and their map icons are blue. Completing all of them unlocks the Teller of Tales trophy.
What about Iki Island?
The Director’s Cut includes the Iki Island expansion, which PlayStation describes as adding a new story expansion, locations, characters and tales. This ranking is limited to the original Tsushima set because the cited guides do not establish a complete Iki Mythic Tale inventory. PlayStation’s July 21, 2021 announcement explains the expansion, and its PS5 Director’s Cut disc listing confirms the full game and Iki Island expansion are included. Check regional availability and platform compatibility before buying.
