If Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT keeps crashing or stuttering on PC, first identify what is happening—failure to launch, a crash during play, a freeze, or uneven frame rates—then check the game’s patch level, storefront, audio/input setup, and hardware against the official requirements. Nixxes has documented fixes for several specific crashes and stability improvements, but those notes do not establish one fix for every PC problem.
Identify the symptom before changing settings
Write down when the problem occurs and what happens immediately beforehand. A startup failure, a crash after loading a save, a hard freeze, and stuttering while moving through the world can have different causes. Also note whether you play through Steam or the Epic Games Store, your CPU and GPU models, GPU memory, system RAM, free storage, whether the game is on an SSD, and your graphics-driver version.
- Won’t launch: Note whether the game closes, shows an error, or remains on a black screen.
- Crashes during play: Record the last action or location before it closes and whether the crash repeats at the same point.
- Freezes: Check whether audio continues and whether Windows recovers, as this helps describe the failure to support.
- Stutters: Note whether the slowdown is constant, occurs during traversal, or began after changing graphics settings or hardware.
These details help distinguish a documented, conditional issue from a problem that needs a separate diagnosis.
Install the latest available game update
Check for updates in the launcher where you own the game. Nixxes’ official Patch 8 notes document several relevant changes: a startup-crash fix on the Epic Games Store when certain Bluetooth audio devices were connected, a crash fix related to Steam Input, updated AMD FSR to version 3.1.4, and broader performance optimizations and stability improvements. The Bluetooth fix applies to that described Epic Games Store condition; it is not evidence that all launch failures are caused by Bluetooth audio. Earlier notes are useful when a symptom matches a known issue, but are not a current, exhaustive list. For example, Patch 3 documented a fix for a black screen at startup when HDR was enabled on Windows 10. Its notes are available in the Patch 3 announcement.
Check the documented storefront-specific conditions
Epic Games Store: startup crash with Bluetooth audio
If the game fails to start on Epic and a Bluetooth audio device is connected, test launching once with that device disconnected or with another audio output selected. This is a narrowly scoped diagnostic based on the Patch 8 fix. If the game still fails, reconnect your usual device and continue with the other checks rather than assuming Bluetooth is the cause.

Steam: crash related to Steam Input
If you play on Steam and the crash occurs while using a controller or Steam Input configuration, test one launch with the relevant Steam Input setup disabled or changed through Steam’s controller options for the game. Restore your normal setting if it makes no difference. Patch 8 documents a Steam Input-related crash fix; it does not establish that every controller-related crash has this cause.
Compare your PC with the official requirements
PlayStation publishes performance targets and corresponding hardware tiers for the PC version. Use the tier closest to your intended resolution and frame rate as a baseline, not as a guarantee: meeting a listed tier does not diagnose an individual crash or ensure identical performance on every system. The cited Steam listing also specifies Windows 10, 8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended, and 75 GB available storage; it recommends an SSD at minimum and requires one for its recommended settings. Check the Steam listing for its requirements. If your hardware falls below the tier you are targeting, lower the resolution or graphics preset before considering a component upgrade. Confirm that the drive has enough free space; SSD storage is a published requirements consideration, not a proven cure for this game’s crashes or stuttering.
Use reversible checks for persistent stuttering
The official notes report performance optimizations but do not identify a universal stuttering cause or endorse a particular driver, overlay, registry change, or graphics setting as a fix. Make one change at a time so you can tell whether it helped.

- Return recent changes to a known state. If the stutter began after changing graphics options, restore the previous settings or reduce the selected preset and test the same scene again.
- Check the intended performance tier. Compare your CPU, graphics card and its memory, system RAM, and storage with the official preset table. A target above your hardware tier may produce poor performance even when the game does not crash.
- Check storage space and drive type. Make sure the installation has the required available space. If the game is on a hard drive, note that PlayStation recommends SSD storage even for the minimum preset; moving it to an SSD is a requirements-aligned test, not a guaranteed fix.
- Retest under the same conditions. Use the same area and settings after each change, and note whether the stutter improves, worsens, or stays the same.
Escalate with useful details
If the game continues to crash or stutter after updating and checking the relevant requirements, use the support route for your store and the game. PlayStation’s PC support page links to Steam Support, Epic Games Support, the Nixxes Knowledge Base, and a Nixxes support request. Steam also offers a Gameplay or technical issue support flow for this game.
Include the storefront, Windows version, CPU, GPU and GPU memory, system RAM, drive type, driver version, game patch level, exact symptom, and steps that reproduce it.
