Those 12 are not missable: you can collect them in post-story free roam. Later updates add more armor, however, and official sources have not published a complete list of the newer sets and their unlock routes.
Original campaign armor locations and unlocks
The following 12 sets are the original campaign list documented by PowerPyx and Push Square. The regional names identify where the associated activity takes place; for detailed quest objectives and map routes, use the linked guides.

Are any of the original sets missable?
No. PowerPyx reports that all 12 sets in the original campaign list remain obtainable in free roam after the story, so you do not need to restart or preserve a particular quest state to collect them. This assurance applies to the original 12, not to every set added in later content.
How to choose armor for your playstyle
Armor is more than appearance: its passive bonuses can support different approaches, and armorers can upgrade sets to improve those bonuses. Compare the perk’s purpose with how you fight—survivability, stealth, ranged attacks, spirit generation, stagger or parries, and exploration utility are useful categories to consider. The exact value is in matching a bonus to your build, rather than choosing a set solely by its name.

Exploration and quieter movement
Robes for Sitturaynu has exploration-oriented effects that help locate Altars of Reflection and other activity clues. Its upgrades use Ainu collectibles and a weaver rather than the standard armorer. Fundoshi is an option for quieter running and sprinting, though it trades away warmth. These perk descriptions and upgrade distinctions are covered in Push Square’s armor guide.
Armor stats versus appearance
GameSpot’s guide focuses on chest armor because those pieces provide gameplay perks and modifiers; it describes most helmets and masks as cosmetic. PlayStation’s build advice frames builds as combinations of armor features and charms’ boons. If you prefer one look but another set’s bonuses, PlayStation says patch v2.0 added an option to keep one armor appearance while using another set’s stats.

New Game Plus and armor added after launch
New Game Plus unlocks after the main story. It lets you restart with armor, abilities and weapons already earned. The free update also introduced Ghost Flowers, which can be exchanged with a new vendor for more than 30 cosmetics, including new armor sets and weapon dyes, as well as 10 charms and an additional upgrade tier for existing armor. These details come from Sucker Punch’s November 19, 2025 announcement.
October 2026 content expanded the pool again. PlayStation announced that Echoes of Sekigahara adds armor sets, and that cosmetics earned in the Most Wanted mode carry into the main game and expansion. The mode is a bounty-based survival experience with waves, minibosses and escalating difficulty; its cosmetics are unlockable through play. The official announcements do not enumerate every added armor set or give a complete set-by-set unlock list, so the original 12 above should not be treated as the full current total.
