If Ghost Recon Breakpoint keeps closing, freezing, or failing to load, first identify whether it is a game crash or an online connection error. The right next step depends on your console (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S), whether you own a disc or digital copy, when the failure happens, and whether other games are affected. There is no confirmed universal console fix; use the platform-specific steps below and note any exact error code.
First, identify what is actually failing
Players may describe being returned to the Home screen, a frozen screen, a failure at the loading screen, or a connection message as “crashing.” These symptoms do not establish the same cause. Ubisoft’s support hub lists PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S for Breakpoint, but its surfaced technical-issues/crashes article is for PC, not a console crash procedure: Ubisoft Help: Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
- Game closes to the dashboard or freezes: Record when it happens—at startup, while loading, or during play—and proceed with the steps for your console.
- A connection error appears: Treat it first as an online-service or network issue rather than proof of a console crash. Check Ubisoft’s Breakpoint connectivity and service guidance and the exact code.
- Several games also fail: The problem may involve the console or its setup rather than Breakpoint alone. PlayStation’s general troubleshooting guidance distinguishes one-game failures from problems affecting multiple games.
Before troubleshooting, note your console model, whether the game is on disc or digital, installation location if known, update status, when the issue occurs, whether it happens offline, whether other games are affected, and the full error message or code. This information helps separate a game-specific issue from an installation, console, or connectivity problem.

- Install any pending PS4 system software updates.
- Fully power-cycle the console.
- Disconnect the PS4 from the internet, then launch Breakpoint once to see whether the failure still occurs.
- Restore licences.
- Rebuild the database in Safe Mode. Back up important data before using Safe Mode options; Ubisoft warns that some options may result in data loss.
- If the game is installed on an external drive, check that installation and consider testing it on the console’s internal storage.
- Confirm that the game and any required content have finished installing.
- If the problem remains, reinstall the game.
If those steps do not resolve the issue, Ubisoft’s guide directs players to PlayStation Support.
PS5: use PlayStation’s PS4/PS5 guidance
Ubisoft’s sequence above is specifically for PS4; do not assume its menu steps apply unchanged to PS5. For PS5, use PlayStation’s game crash and freeze guide, which covers both PS4 and PS5. It recommends checking that the game and system software are up to date, confirming installation is complete, testing with a fresh save, and reinstalling where appropriate. Back up data before a console reset. If multiple games fail, investigate the console; if only Breakpoint fails online, PlayStation advises contacting the game publisher.

Disc copies: check whether the problem follows the disc
For a physical copy, PlayStation recommends cleaning and inspecting the disc, checking game and system updates, reinstalling if needed, and testing another disc. If only this disc causes trouble, contact the retailer. This test is useful for distinguishing a disc-specific fault from a problem affecting the console or multiple games.
Xbox: avoid applying PS4 instructions to another console
The available support material does not establish an official Xbox-specific Breakpoint crash sequence. Ubisoft lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported platform categories, but that does not make the PS4 procedure appropriate for Xbox. Check for Xbox system and game updates, then use Xbox Support for current instructions on restart, storage, or installation problems. If the issue occurs only in Breakpoint, contact Ubisoft Help.

When escalating, include the Xbox model, whether the copy is disc or digital, where it is installed, update status, when it fails, whether it also happens offline, whether other games work, and any displayed code. These details help support staff identify whether the symptom is tied to the game, installation, console, or connection.
Connection codes are not proof of a crash
Ubisoft describes WHALERS-00301 as a lost server connection; its error-code explanation was updated 27 August 2026. ARGYLL-00052 means the server connection was lost or expired, and MOUNTAIN-00016 indicates an ongoing online service issue; Ubisoft’s listings for those two codes were updated 18 December 2025. A connection code identifies the condition described by Ubisoft; on its own, it does not explain why the game might separately freeze or close. If the console returns to the dashboard as well as showing connection trouble, record both symptoms and when each occurs.

Ubisoft’s reviewed support material does not establish a current general console crash defect affecting Xbox and PlayStation, and it does not provide a confirmed Xbox-specific crash sequence. Support instructions and live service conditions can change.
