Verdict: The Gigabyte GV-N1030D5-2GL remains a useful niche graphics card for an old or slim desktop that needs HDMI output, low power consumption, or basic older-game performance. It is not a sensible modern gaming upgrade unless the GDDR5 version is substantially cheaper than stronger low-profile alternatives.
The model matters. This review covers Gigabyte’s low-profile 2GB GDDR5 card—not every product sold under the GT 1030 name. Gigabyte also produced much slower DDR4 versions, and their performance should not be inferred from this card.

Quick verdict
| Best for | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Old slim desktops | Good fit if the case accepts a low-profile bracket |
| HDMI or second-display upgrades | Useful, provided HDMI and DVI-D meet your needs |
| HTPC and media playback | Reasonable for compatible display and playback workloads |
| Older or lightweight games | Playable at reduced settings |
| Modern AAA gaming | Poor choice |
| Best value in 2026 | Usually no; price and exact memory type are decisive |
The card’s strongest advantages are its compact 150mm low-profile design, single-slot format, 30W-class power rating, and lack of an auxiliary PCIe power connector. Its weaknesses are equally clear: an old Pascal GPU, only 2GB of VRAM, limited outputs, and performance far below even modest modern gaming cards.
Which Gigabyte GT 1030 is this?
The reviewed card is the Gigabyte GV-N1030D5-2GL, marketed as the GT 1030 Low Profile 2G. Gigabyte’s official product page identifies it as a legacy low-profile card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory and a 150mm length.
#1 Best Overall
- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
- Video Memory: 4GB DDR4
- Boost Clock: 1430 MHz
- Memory Interface: 64-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 1 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.0b x 1
Do not treat these models as interchangeable:
| Model | Memory | Form factor | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| GV-N1030D5-2GL | 2GB GDDR5 | Low profile | Model reviewed here |
| GV-N1030OC-2GI | 2GB GDDR5 | Full height | Factory-overclocked; unsuitable for many slim PCs |
| GV-N1030D4-2GL | 2GB DDR4 | Low profile | Much slower memory configuration |
| GV-N1030SL-2GL | 2GB GDDR5 | Low profile | Passive, fanless cooling |
A listing that says only “Gigabyte GT 1030 2GB” is incomplete. Check the model number, memory type, product photographs, bracket, and return policy before buying. The separate GV-N1030D4-2GL listing demonstrates why the memory specification matters.
Specifications and design
| Specification | GV-N1030D5-2GL |
|---|---|
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030, Pascal GP108 |
| CUDA cores | 384 |
| Memory | 2GB GDDR5 |
| Memory bus | 64-bit |
| Memory bandwidth | 48GB/s |
| Gaming-mode clocks | 1,227MHz base; 1,468MHz boost |
| OC-mode clocks | 1,252MHz base; 1,506MHz boost |
| Power rating | 30W |
| Auxiliary power | None |
| Outputs | HDMI 2.0b and DVI-D |
| Format | Low profile, single slot, 150mm long |
| Cooling | Active cooler with a small 50mm fan |
The specifications are confirmed by Gigabyte and the original Hardware Secrets review. The small active cooler should provide more consistent cooling than a passive design in some cramped systems, but it adds fan noise and another component that can fail. Gigabyte’s silent low-profile version removes the fan; that can be attractive for a media PC, but a fanless card still needs reasonable case airflow.
Will it fit your PC?
Low profile describes the card’s height and bracket, not merely the length of its circuit board. The GV-N1030D5-2GL is suitable for a slim desktop only when the computer has a low-profile expansion opening and the correct short bracket.

- Confirm that the motherboard has an available physical PCIe x16-length slot.
- Confirm that the case accepts a low-profile bracket.
- Check whether the package includes the short bracket. Used cards are sometimes missing it.
- Compare the 150mm card length with the case’s internal GPU clearance.
- Verify that the motherboard BIOS can initialize a discrete graphics card.
- Check that your monitor or receiver accepts HDMI or DVI-D.
- Inspect airflow, especially if choosing a passive model.
The full-height GV-N1030OC-2GI is a different physical proposition. Its specifications, including the same 2GB GDDR5 capacity and 30W rating, are listed by Newegg, but a full-height card will not fit a slim case simply because its PCB is short.
Power requirements
The GT 1030’s low power demand is its clearest hardware advantage. The card is rated at 30W-class power, receives power through the motherboard slot, and has no six-pin or eight-pin connector. That makes it suitable for many older small-form-factor systems where the power supply has no graphics-card cable.
Do not confuse the card’s power rating with a recommended system PSU. Newegg lists a 300W recommended power supply for the full-height model; that is a total-system recommendation, not a claim that the GPU consumes 300W. An old 300W OEM supply may be less trustworthy than a newer unit with a lower headline wattage. Condition, 12V capacity, and proprietary system design matter.
Display output and media use
The GV-N1030D5-2GL provides HDMI 2.0b and DVI-D. It has no analog VGA output. DVI-D is digital-only, so a passive DVI-to-VGA adapter generally will not work; an active converter is required if the display accepts only analog VGA.

The card can also drive high-resolution digital displays. However, a listing’s “4K support” should be read carefully:
Rank #2
- Chipset: Nvidia Geforce GT 1030, Silver plated PCB & all solid capacitors provide lower temperature, higher efficiency & stability
- Low Profile SSF Ready & Slim ITX size perfect in many cases (Low Profile Bracket Included)
- New Nvidia Pascal Architecture, 1x Faster Then Geforce GT1030 2GD4 & 3x Faster Than GeForce GT730 (Watch the left video for details)
- GPU Boost Clock / Memory Speed : up to 1468 MHz / 2GB GDDR5 64bit / 6000 MHz Memory
- Support Nvidia Technology, avoid using unofficial software
- 4K display output: sending a desktop signal to a 4K monitor.
- 4K video playback: decoding compatible media formats through supported software and drivers.
- 4K gaming: rendering a demanding game at 4K, which this card is not designed to do.
For office work, web browsing, video playback, or adding a second digital display to an older computer, the GT 1030 can still solve a practical problem. Codec support and playback quality vary with the operating system, application, driver, and video format, so “4K capable” is not a universal guarantee.
Gaming performance
The original Hardware Secrets test used an Intel Core i7-7700K, 16GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200 memory, Windows 10 64-bit, and NVIDIA driver 382.53. It tested older software versions and games including Battlefield 4, CS:GO, Dirt Rally, GTA V, Hitman, Mad Max, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six Siege. These are historical 2017 results, not current 2026 benchmarks.
Compared with a Zotac GTX 1050, the reviewed GT 1030 was reported to be:
| Test | GT 1030 deficit |
|---|---|
| 3DMark Fire Strike | 48% slower |
| 3DMark Sky Diver | 41% slower |
| 3DMark Cloud Gate | 32% slower |
| Battlefield 4 | 49% slower |
| CS:GO | 48% slower |
| Dirt Rally | 52% slower |
| GTA V | 40% slower |
| Hitman | 58% slower |
| Mad Max | 48% slower |
| Overwatch | 23% slower |
| Rainbow Six Siege | 47% slower |
The sensible gaming target is older DirectX 9 or DirectX 11 software, lightweight competitive games, and older indie releases at 720p or 1080p with low settings. Results depend on the CPU, RAM configuration, resolution, patches, drivers, and graphics settings. Avoid buying it for modern AAA games, ray tracing, 1440p or 4K gaming, high-refresh-rate play, or workloads that need more than 2GB of VRAM.
GDDR5 versus DDR4: the most important buying warning
GDDR5 is the version to seek if gaming performance matters. The DDR4 models are best understood as display adapters with limited gaming capability. A low price does not make a DDR4 GT 1030 equivalent to the card reviewed here.
Before purchasing, look for:
- The exact model number, preferably GV-N1030D5-2GL for low-profile use.
- “GDDR5” explicitly stated in the specifications.
- Photographs showing the actual card rather than a stock image.
- The correct low-profile bracket.
- A return window covering incorrect or defective hardware.
Never use a GDDR5 review to estimate the performance of the GV-N1030D4-2GL. The shared GT 1030 name does not establish equal performance.

The original review used the old NVIDIA 382.53 driver. That number should not be treated as a current recommendation. Gigabyte’s support page lists legacy driver packages and directs users to the GPU manufacturer for current software. Check NVIDIA’s GT 1030 page and current driver destination before installation.

- Move the monitor cable from the motherboard output to the GT 1030.
- Confirm that the cable and display input are set to HDMI or DVI as appropriate.
- Enter the BIOS and select the discrete GPU or PCIe graphics as the primary display.
- Check whether the system needs a BIOS update or legacy/UEFI setting change.
- Remove and reseat the card, then verify that the bracket is not preventing full insertion.
DirectX 12 support does not mean that every current game or Windows feature will run well. Driver behavior and game compatibility can change, while the underlying limitations of the old GPU and 2GB memory remain.
Alternatives in 2026
A used or new-old-stock low-profile GTX 1650 is usually the more credible gaming choice if its price, dimensions, and power requirements fit the system. Check the exact model because some versions may require auxiliary power. NVIDIA’s reference page is available at NVIDIA.
A Radeon RX 6400 low-profile offers a newer architecture and is generally more suitable for basic modern gaming, although PCIe-generation behavior and feature support deserve particular attention in older systems. See AMD’s product page.

If gaming is irrelevant, a cheaper passive display adapter may be a better purchase. For a new system, modern CPU integrated graphics can eliminate the need for a discrete card, though that requires replacing the platform rather than making a drop-in upgrade.
Buying advice and final assessment
Because the GT 1030 is a legacy product, much of the available stock may be used, old inventory, or marketplace-sold. Check fan condition, missing brackets, warranty coverage, seller reputation, and return terms. The current Newegg listing for the full-height model, for example, includes marketplace-seller context rather than serving as a dependable manufacturer-direct price reference.
Buy the Gigabyte GT 1030 only when its low-profile size, slot-only power, or unusually low price solves a specific problem. For the reviewed GV-N1030D5-2GL, that means confirming 2GB GDDR5—not DDR4—and verifying that the computer accepts a low-profile 150mm single-slot card.
As a compact display upgrade or basic card for older games, it remains useful. As a new gaming purchase in 2026, it is generally poor value unless stronger low-profile cards are unavailable or substantially more expensive.
