Black smoke filled the room. I quickly extinguished the fire, but exhaled a lot of smoke in the process and my room is in a bad shape now, covered with black particles (my modular synth as well). Fortunately we avoided the worst, but the fact that this can happen is still shocking. It’s an older wired, optical mouse from Gigabyte.” This is the user’s account; the post alone does not independently verify the fire’s cause or each reported detail.

Which Gigabyte mouse was involved?
Contemporaneous reports by Tom’s Hardware and HotHardware identified the device from its underside label as the Gigabyte GM-M6880X, also referred to as the M6880X. They describe it as an older wired mouse. HotHardware reports product specifications of 1,600 DPI and Omron switches rated for 5 million clicks; those figures are specifications, not incident measurements or evidence about fire risk.

Gigabyte’s AORUS_Official account responded in the original Reddit discussion that it was “actively looking into this case,” had reached out to lommelinn to offer support, and intended to investigate. That was an initial public response, not a final investigation report.
