First, identify the Steam listing and the crash stage
There are two Steam listings in the available support records, with different publishers and support contacts. Confirm the app ID on the game’s Steam store or support page before applying a workaround or contacting support.

These symptoms are not interchangeable: the game may fail to launch, close when you continue after reaching the title screen, or close after downloading its initial update. The reports below describe different points of failure and different configurations.
What Steam Deck reports actually establish
Crash after the title-screen update
A February 11, 2025 report in Valve’s Proton issue tracker describes a Steam Deck OLED 512 GB running SteamOS 3.6.20 with Proton Hotfix and Experimental. After the game reached the title screen and downloaded an additional update, continuing closed the game back to the Steam dashboard. This is one user’s report, not evidence that the same sequence affects every Deck or Steam listing. Read the Proton tracker report.

Failure to launch on Proton 11.0 beta
In a separate report dated April 25, 2026, a Steam Deck OLED user said the game failed to launch on Proton 11.0 beta, while Proton 10.0-4 and GE-Proton worked in that setup. Treat this as a configuration-specific lead, not a guaranteed fix for a crash after an update or for other installations. Read the Proton tracker report.
Compatibility status for App ID 3308670
SteamDB’s compatibility record for App ID 3308670 was marked Unsupported, and displayed that Valve was still working on Steam Deck and SteamOS support. Its test timestamp is June 30, 2026; compatibility metadata can change, so check the current SteamDB compatibility record rather than treating that status as a permanent assessment. The record recommends Proton Experimental, but that is not proof it will resolve a particular crash.

Troubleshoot by comparing like with like
- Record your setup. Note the Deck model, SteamOS version, game App ID, selected Proton compatibility tool, and precise point at which the game closes. These details make it easier to compare your case with a report that has the same symptom.
- If the problem started after selecting Proton 11.0 beta, try a reversible runtime change. In the April 2026 report, the user said Proton 10.0-4 and GE-Proton worked where Proton 11.0 beta did not. Select a different compatibility tool in the game’s Steam properties and see whether the launch result changes; do not assume this will fix a crash at the title-screen update stage.
- Check the current compatibility record. Review the Steam Deck status for your listing, especially if you use App ID 3308670. SteamDB’s June 30, 2026 record is a dated snapshot, not a live guarantee of compatibility.
- Contact the support team for your listing. Use the Steam support page matching your App ID: Haoplay’s contact for 3308670 or Darkwinter’s for 3347400. Include the symptom stage and the setup details you recorded.
What not to treat as a confirmed fix
Community discussions include different accounts of launchers and runtime behavior, but they do not establish a Deck-wide solution. Neither a launcher swap, Protontricks or WebView2 steps, nor installing a non-Steam version is confirmed by these reports as an official or universal remedy. Avoid making several changes at once: if a change helps, you will otherwise have a harder time identifying which one mattered.
Storage requirement is not a crash remedy
Steam’s support page for Darkwinter’s App ID 3347400 lists 60 GB of available storage as a system requirement. That figure is a storage requirement for that listing, not evidence that low storage causes the reported crash or that freeing space will fix it. The cited listing does not establish a corresponding figure for App ID 3308670.

How to describe your issue when asking for help
Steam community users have phrased the question as “Anyone got this to run on the Steam Deck?” One community account describes reaching login, downloading the large update, and returning to SteamOS after pressing Play. If that matches your case, state the sequence clearly, then add your App ID, SteamOS version, Deck model, and Proton selection. Those details distinguish an update-flow crash from a Proton beta launch failure; neither community discussion establishes how common either problem is.
