Its related variant, Acidic Glavenus, has a sulphur-coated tail Capcom compares to a Long Sword. The weapon comparisons describe their designs; neither monster literally wields a hunter’s weapon.
What is Glavenus in Monster Hunter?
Capcom presented Glavenus as a returning monster in its Monster Hunter World: Iceborne preview, published August 29, 2019. The preview describes the monster as a brute and cautions players not to assume it behaves exactly as it did in earlier versions. It also warns of burning sources beyond Glavenus’s giant tail. These are brief promotional descriptions, not a complete ecology entry or detailed account of its attacks.
Capcom’s article identifies Glavenus among the monsters revealed for Iceborne. It does not, by itself, establish Glavenus’s debut game or franchise-history status. Read Capcom’s Iceborne monster preview.
How is Glavenus different from Acidic Glavenus?
The clearest distinction in Capcom’s descriptions is the tail’s appearance and weapon-like design analogy:

|---|---|---|
| Glavenus | Fiery | Great Sword-like |
| Acidic Glavenus | Sulphur-coated | Long Sword-like |
Capcom’s preview says Acidic Glavenus brings “a sulphur coated Long Sword-like tailpiece” instead of Glavenus’s “fiery Great Sword-like tail.” The comparison is visual shorthand, not a claim that either monster uses a hunter’s weapon. The source does not provide a full side-by-side breakdown of their ecology or combat patterns.
