The announcement came on February 12, 2026, but the project is still very early in development; no release date, platforms, price, preorder details, gameplay, or release format have been announced.
What was announced?
Santa Monica Studio announced a remake of the original Greek-saga trilogy on February 12, 2026, in a PlayStation.Blog post. Sony’s State of Play recap also listed the remake among the February 2026 presentation’s announcements.

The original God of War debuted on PlayStation 2 in March 2005, according to the official announcement. The new project is a remake of that original trilogy, not a new release of the existing HD remasters.
Is there a release date or confirmed platform?
No. The cited official announcement and event recap do not state a release date or window, platforms, price, preorder availability, gameplay details, or whether the remake will be sold as one collection or in another format. Those details remain unannounced.

Santa Monica Studio Communications Director Grace Orlady said: “This project is still very early in development, so we ask for your patience as it will be a while before anything else can be shared.”
Is TC Carson returning as Kratos?
TC Carson, who played Kratos in the Greek saga, appeared in the announcement. The official post identifies him as the actor who brought Kratos to life in that saga, but does not confirm that he has been cast in the remake. His appearance should not be taken as a casting announcement.

Is God of War Sons of Sparta part of the remake?
No. God of War Sons of Sparta is a separate game. Santa Monica Studio describes it as a 2D action platformer developed with Mega Cat Studios; it was released for PS5 on February 12, 2026, the same day the trilogy remake was announced. The shared announcement date does not make it part of the remake.

The remake has not been announced as available to play. Existing releases and HD remasters are separate ways to revisit the earlier games. For example, Game Informer reports that God of War III originally launched for PlayStation 3 on March 16, 2010. That PS3 release is an older game, not the newly announced remake. The available platform and edition depend on the particular release; the announcement does not establish which versions will be included in the remake.
