The official tracker marks that specific login issue “Fixed on Live,” but that does not mean every crash during loading or gameplay is fixed.
First, identify when Grounded 2 crashes
The known Xbox startup issue occurs during login, before you reach the main menu. The troubleshooting below applies to that specific crash pattern. If the game instead crashes while loading a world or during gameplay, Obsidian has not established that these login workarounds address it.
- During startup login: Try the two workarounds below.
- While loading a world or playing: Check the current issue tracker for a matching report and collect details to send to Obsidian if none is listed.
Try Obsidian’s workarounds for a login crash
Obsidian says blocked contacts on a player’s friends list may cause the startup login crash. It lists two workarounds, without claiming a success rate or saying one is better for everyone.
Option 1: Unblock blocked contacts
Review your friends list and unblock any blocked users, then try launching the game online again. This preserves the normal online launch path, but changes your blocked-contacts list. Obsidian’s issue entry is the source for this diagnosis and workaround: Game is Crashing at Login.

Option 2: Launch offline
Disconnect the Xbox from the internet, then launch Grounded 2. This avoids the online login path, but you will be starting offline. Obsidian lists this as an alternative workaround for the login issue.
Make sure the game is updated
Obsidian announced Patch 0.5.1 on September 11, 2026, for Xbox Series S|X and other listed platforms. The notice lists many fixes but does not identify a general Xbox crash fix, so do not assume that this patch resolves a crash that does not match the login issue. Updates can take time to appear; Obsidian suggests restarting if an update is not initially visible. See the official Grounded 2 news and patch notices for current information.

The issue tracker lists “Game is Crashing at Login” as “Fixed on Live.” It separately lists “Investigating Stability Crashes,” described as fixed in a future patch. These are distinct tracker entries, so check the current issue tracker for the status of your particular crash rather than treating the login status as a blanket fix.
Do not use PC crash instructions on an Xbox console
Obsidian’s general “Grounded 2 is Crashing” support article was last updated August 25, 2026 and is largely PC-focused. Its “Xbox” file-checking directions mean the Xbox app for Windows: they describe selecting the game in the PC library and using Manage > Files to check for updates or verify and repair files. Those are not Xbox Series X|S console steps.

Accordingly, advice in that article about Windows updates, graphics drivers, PC overheating, mods, BIOS updates, or repairing game files through the Xbox app does not apply as console troubleshooting guidance.

Obsidian asks players to check the known issue list first and upvote a matching entry. If your crash is not listed, use its support portal and include the platform, a short summary, a screenshot or clip, reproduction steps, and a save file or gamertag so support can access the world. System information may also be relevant.

For a console crash, make the clip show when the crash occurs and note what you did immediately beforehand. That makes the report more useful alongside the reproduction steps Obsidian requests.
