Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, replacing Rockstar’s earlier date of May 26, 2026. Rockstar says the additional months will give the team more time to finish the game with the polish players expect. That is the company’s stated rationale—not a guarantee about the finished game.
When is GTA 6 coming out now?
Rockstar announced the new date on November 6, 2025. The game had previously been scheduled for May 26, 2026, a date Rockstar announced in May 2025. Rockstar’s November 2025 announcement and its current GTA VI page list November 19, 2026.
This is a move of nearly six months, not a change to a 2026 launch year. Take-Two repeated the November 19 date in its June 24, 2026 preorder announcement.
Why was GTA 6 delayed again?
Rockstar’s explanation is that the extra time is for finishing and polishing the game. In its delay announcement, the company said: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

That statement explains Rockstar’s reason for changing the schedule. It does not establish that the game is finished, rule out further schedule changes, or prove what its quality will be at launch.
What is the bright side of the delay?
The practical upside is that Rockstar’s official channels have continued to add material for fans to explore during the wait. The company’s GTA VI page lists an “Extended Look” dated August 27, 2026, an album announcement dated September 17, and Vice City Collection preorder news dated September 24. These are new updates to follow; there is no official claim that the delay caused them.

More development time may also give the team room to pursue the polish Rockstar says it wants. That is a reasonable hope, rather than a confirmed outcome: the release itself will show whether the extra time made the difference players want.
Which platforms are confirmed?
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for GTA VI. Its support article about editions and platforms, last updated August 18, 2026, also names those consoles. The official material reviewed does not announce a PC version or release date, so a PC launch should not be treated as confirmed.

What are the editions, prices, and physical format?
Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 preorder release announced a US starting price of $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition for $99.99. These are announced US prices, not a promise of the current price in every country or store. Check your local retailer or console storefront for current pricing and availability.

The preorder announcement also described a Vintage Vice City Pack and a free month of GTA+ for digital preorders. Eligibility and timing depend on the official terms, so confirm them with Rockstar or the retailer before placing an order.

How should you choose where and how to buy?
- Choose by console first: the confirmed platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official sources cited here do not establish a performance advantage for either version.
- Compare editions by included content and price: the announced US prices are $79.99 for the starting edition and $99.99 for Ultimate, but check the listing in your region for exact contents and current cost.
- Pick physical only if a boxed code works for you: it does not include a disc. If you prefer not to handle a redemption code, compare the digital option in your console’s store.
