Paying $1,400 for a PS5 Pro does not currently guarantee that Grand Theft Auto VI will run at 60 frames per second. Sony lists GTA VI for both the standard PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Pro Enhanced, with a 19 November 2026 release date, but it has not published a final frame-rate target, resolution, ray-tracing setup or detailed Pro mode. A report attributed to Rockstar North development head and co-director Rob Nelson says current console builds were running at 30 FPS, while a 60 FPS option remained undecided. The $1,400 figure is reported resale pricing during a shortage, not Sony’s official US price. On the evidence available on 27 October 2026, the standard PS5 is the lower-risk GTA VI purchase.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?
There is no confirmed 60 FPS mode for GTA VI on PS5 Pro. Sony’s official listing confirms PS5 Pro Enhanced support, but that label does not specify a frame rate or resolution.

VGC reproduced a machine-translated remark attributed to Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s head of development and co-director: “According to Rob Nelson, Lead Developer and Co-director at Rockstar North, during this development period, the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second.” Push Square also reported that a 60 FPS option was still undecided.
Those statements describe development builds, not the retail game. They are useful evidence of the performance target being worked on, but they are not a launch specification. Rockstar or Sony could still change the rendering modes before release or through a later update.

Why “PS5 Pro Enhanced” is not a 60 FPS promise
“PS5 Pro Enhanced” identifies compatibility with Sony’s more powerful console. It does not require a particular frame rate, resolution, ray-tracing configuration or visual preset. Sony has not published those GTA VI details, so a Pro listing alone cannot justify paying a premium for smoother animation.
Is a $1,400 PS5 Pro worth buying for GTA 6?
Not if the only reason is an assumed 60 FPS advantage. The $1,400 figure reported by Tom’s Guide was for a pre-owned PS5 Pro during shortage conditions, while Sony Interactive Entertainment lists the US recommended retail price at $899.99.
| Option | Official US price or reported price | What is confirmed for GTA VI | Frame-rate certainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | $649.99 MSRP (Sony Interactive Entertainment, 2026) | Officially listed platform | No final target published; current-build report says 30 FPS |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | $899.99 MSRP (Sony Interactive Entertainment, 2026) | Officially listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced | No final target or quantified Pro advantage published |
| Pre-owned PS5 Pro at shortage pricing | $1,400 reported by Tom’s Guide (2026) | Same platform support as the official Pro model | Resale price adds no confirmed performance feature |
The resale premium is $500 above the official Pro MSRP and $750 above the standard PS5 MSRP. Neither premium buys a published GTA VI frame-rate guarantee. If you want the Pro for other games, a larger display, or its broader system-level advantages, that is a separate decision; GTA VI alone does not provide a confirmed financial reason to pay shortage pricing.

Do you need PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
No. Sony lists the standard PS5 as a GTA VI platform, so the base console is officially supported. The game is not listed for PS4.
What both consoles officially support
Both systems are in Sony’s platform listing for the 19 November 2026 release. The listing does not indicate that any mission, mode or content is exclusive to PS5 Pro. It also does not quantify differences in image quality or performance between the two consoles.
What the standard PS5 already provides
Sony highlights DualSense wireless-controller haptics, adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and fast SSD loading for the PS5 experience. Sony confirms GTA VI support for the controller’s vibration and adaptive triggers. Those features affect controls, sound and presentation; they do not establish a higher frame rate.

What are the GTA 6 prices and release details?
The PlayStation Store lists a GTA VI Standard Edition at $79.99 and an Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Those are the listed US game prices for the editions, separate from the cost of the console. The announced release date is 19 November 2026.
Sony’s official buying information identifies a 1TB standard PS5 model. Buyers comparing console bundles should confirm the exact storage, included accessories and seller terms because the $1,400 figure refers to a pre-owned resale listing rather than a standard retail package.
What should you check before buying a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
- Check the source of the price. Compare any listing with Sony’s $899.99 US MSRP. Treat $1,400 as shortage-era resale pricing, not the normal price.
- Look for a published performance mode. Until Sony or Rockstar states a GTA VI frame rate, do not assume “Enhanced” means 60 FPS.
- Confirm the platform and edition. Both PS5 models are listed for the game, and the Standard and Ultimate editions have separate prices.
- Decide whether you value the Pro beyond GTA VI. A broader console upgrade may be worthwhile for your library, but that value is independent of an unconfirmed GTA VI mode.
- Recheck specifications near launch. Frame rate, resolution, ray tracing and exact Pro enhancements remain unpublished and could be clarified before 19 November.
What is still unknown about GTA 6 performance?
The final retail frame rate, resolution targets, ray-tracing configuration, graphics modes and the exact meaning of the PS5 Pro enhancement have not been announced in the official listings available on 27 October 2026. The reported 30 FPS development status should therefore be read as a warning against assuming 60 FPS, not as proof that every launch mode will be capped at 30 FPS.

What is the practical buying verdict?
Buy a PS5 Pro at its normal retail price only if you want the console for reasons beyond a promised GTA VI frame rate. Do not pay $1,400 in resale pricing solely for GTA VI. The standard PS5 is officially supported, costs less, and carries the same uncertainty about the game’s final frame-rate target.

Could Rockstar add a 60 FPS mode after GTA VI launches?
It is technically possible, but no post-launch 60 FPS commitment has been announced. Any such mode would need confirmation from Rockstar or Sony rather than an assumption based on the Pro label.
When will GTA VI’s final PS5 performance details be reliable?
The most reliable information will come from Rockstar or Sony’s final technical announcement and from independent analysis of the retail build after release. Development reports can change before launch.

Does the PS5 Pro’s higher price include a guaranteed GTA VI upgrade?
No guaranteed GTA VI upgrade is stated in Sony’s listing. The official material confirms platform support, not a specific frame-rate, resolution or ray-tracing benefit.
Are the $79.99 and $99.99 GTA VI prices separate from the console cost?
Yes. They are the listed prices for the Standard and Ultimate game editions, while the PS5 or PS5 Pro must be purchased separately.
