GTA VI is not released yet. As of October 30, 2026, Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the launch date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can prepare now by putting the child on a supervised platform account, blocking games above the account’s age level, requiring purchase approval or setting a spending allowance, and locking adult, guest and new-user sign-ins. The US Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) entry rates GTA VI Mature 17+ and flags blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, drugs and alcohol, and in-game purchases.
This is a console-account guide for the unreleased game. Rockstar has described GTA VI as a single-player experience, but no game-specific parental-control or spending-limit menu has been documented. Use the platform controls below rather than waiting for a GTA VI settings screen.

What should parents know before setting controls for GTA 6?
Set the content gate before deciding whether to allow purchases. A zero-dollar limit prevents Store spending, but it does not make a Mature-rated game suitable for a younger child. Conversely, allowing the game does not require allowing purchases: age access and payment access are separate settings on both consoles.
- Release timing: GTA VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s announced platforms do not include older console generations in the cited platform announcement.
- Rating: The current US ESRB record is Mature 17+ and includes “In-Game Purchases” in its summary. Read the full rating details at ESRB’s GTA VI listing. A rating is a classification, not a recommendation for every 17-year-old.
- Game format: Rockstar describes GTA VI as a single-player experience. The rating and storefront information still flag in-game purchases, so do not assume that single-player means no transaction prompts.
- Unknowns: No verified GTA VI-specific parental-control screen, purchasable currency, GTA Online mode or in-game spending cap has been established for this pre-release guide. Platform-level controls are the dependable preparation.
- Account ownership: The child must play through the supervised child or member account. If the child can switch to an unrestricted adult profile, create a new user or use a guest session, the age and purchase rules can be bypassed.
How do I block GTA 6 on PS5?
On PS5, add the child to your PlayStation family, set the child’s game-and-app age level below Mature 17+, and secure the console so the child cannot use an adult or guest account. The child can request an exception for a specific title; treat that request as a separate decision, not as automatic permission to buy the game.

1. Add the child to your PlayStation family
Use PlayStation Family Management on the PS5, in web Account Management or in the PlayStation Family app. Create or add a child account that the child will use for GTA VI. Family controls apply to that account, not to every person who uses the console, so do not let the child play through the family manager’s adult profile.
2. Set the game and app age level
- On the PS5, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child’s account, then choose Parental Controls.
- Set Age level for games and apps to an age level that excludes a Mature 17+ title.
- Save the setting and keep the family manager credentials private.
Sony’s instructions and the available controls are documented at PlayStation’s PS5 parental-controls and spending-limits page. If the child requests an exception for GTA VI, review the request deliberately. Approving an exception changes content access; it does not by itself authorize a purchase.
3. Set the PS5 spending limit
PlayStation’s child-account Monthly Spending Limit defaults to 0. Leave it at zero when the child should not make PlayStation Store purchases, or enter a finite monthly amount after you have decided that the content itself is appropriate. Child-account Store payments draw from the family manager’s wallet.
- Return to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child, then Parental Controls > Monthly Spending Limit.
- Enter the maximum amount for the month. Enter 0 for no child-account Store spending.
- Confirm the change. The web route is Account Management > Family Management > [child] > Edit > Monthly Spending Limit.
The PlayStation Family app can manage the same monthly limit. The limit governs purchases charged through the child account; it should not be treated as a cancellation mechanism for a subscription that an adult account already started.
4. Add time, communication and user-generated-content limits
In the child’s PS5 Parental Controls, configure playtime and Communication and User-Generated Content > Restrict if those safeguards fit your household. These are general platform controls. They are not evidence that GTA VI has a particular multiplayer chat feature or that its eventual single-player content will use every communication setting.
If a control appears not to apply after you change it, Sony advises having the child sign out and sign back in. A sign-out refreshes the account’s policy; it does not replace the need to set the rule correctly.

5. Close PS5 account and guest bypasses
Parental controls are only as strong as the routes to an unrestricted account. Sony documents separate settings for console restrictions and adult-account sign-in:
- Open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > PS5 Console Restrictions and change the console-restriction passcode from the default 0000.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Login Settings and set an adult-account login passcode.
- In PS5 Console Restrictions > User Creation and Guest Login, choose Not Allowed.
- Keep the two passcodes distinct and do not disclose either one to the child.

How do I turn on Ask a parent on Xbox Series X|S?
Xbox separates purchase approval from a spending allowance. Turn on Ask a parent to require an organizer’s approval for Store purchases, then use Microsoft Family Safety to give the child only a finite balance if you want an allowance. Microsoft does not describe that combination as the same monthly-cap system used by PS5.
1. Add the child as a family member
Add the child as a Member of your Microsoft family group through Family Safety or on the console at Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members. Have the child use that member account for Xbox play. Microsoft’s current family-settings overview is at Xbox Family Settings.

In Xbox Family Settings, set the child’s age-based content filter to prevent games above the age you allow. Because GTA VI is listed as Mature 17+ in the US, a younger account’s filter should block it unless you deliberately change the rule or approve an exception. Also configure screen-time and communication rules that match your household.
3. Enable purchase approval
- Sign in as the family organizer.
- Open Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members.
- Select the child, then Privacy & online safety > Xbox Live privacy > View details & customize > Buy & download.
- Set Ask a parent to On.
Microsoft’s step-by-step support page is Require kids to ask before buying from the Microsoft Store on Xbox. An approval request is a decision point for each purchase; it is not a preset monetary allowance.

4. Give a finite balance instead of unrestricted card access
For an allowance, open Microsoft Family Safety > [child] > Manage spending and add only the amount the child may spend. Microsoft states that the balance cannot be overdrawn. This creates a finite funded balance, but it is conceptually different from a recurring monthly limit: when the balance is gone, you must decide whether to add more.
If a payment card is attached to the child’s account, enable Require approval for every purchase. Purchase notifications and activity reports help you review activity, but they do not replace approval or a finite balance. Microsoft documents these spending controls at Spending limits in Family Safety.
5. Set time rules and prevent signed-out bypasses
Once the child’s device is connected to Family Safety, set Xbox app and game limits, along with communication restrictions where appropriate. Microsoft recommends a PIN to prevent someone from signing in as another person and Signed-out content restrictions so content rules still apply when nobody is signed in. These settings close a common gap: a child who is signed out should not gain broader access simply because account-based rules are inactive.
What is the difference between PS5 and Xbox spending controls?
PS5 gives the child account an explicit monthly Store limit that starts at zero. Xbox gives you approval prompts and a funded balance, with an optional requirement for approval on every card purchase; the cited Microsoft instructions do not present a matching monthly-cap field.

Does GTA 6 have its own parental-controls menu?
No verified GTA VI-specific parental-control menu has been published for this pre-release guide. Use the PS5 or Xbox family account controls for age access, time, communication and purchases. After launch, Rockstar may document additional game-level options, but do not assume that an option exists until Rockstar or the platform documents it.
Rockstar’s platform announcement identifies GTA VI as a single-player experience, while the ESRB record and Xbox storefront listing still flag in-game purchases. What are the GTA 6 editions, prices and subscription catches?
Take-Two has announced US launch prices of $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. These are publisher-announced US prices, not a guarantee of a particular retailer’s current price, tax or promotion.
Preorder GTA+ offers
The US PlayStation preorder offer includes a promotional GTA+ month that becomes a paid monthly subscription unless it is canceled before the next payment date. A child-account Store cap should not be treated as proof that an adult account’s existing subscription will be canceled. Review the offer, renewal date and payment account on the adult account that made the preorder.
Xbox states that its preorder GTA+ month cannot be redeemed by a child account restricted from age-restricted content. That restriction is another reason to decide the age gate before trying to redeem a promotion; it is not a reason to lower the content filter.
Physical Standard Edition
Rockstar says a physical Standard Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is expected starting November 12, 2026. The box contains a digital download code, not a disc; Rockstar’s support article states, “A disc will not be included in the box.” For a PS5 code, Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country that matches the platform account’s region to avoid activation problems. - Confirm the child is signed into the supervised child or member account, not an adult profile.
- Sign out and verify that the content filter still applies when the child signs back in.
- Try to open account switching, user creation and guest-login paths while signed in as the child; those routes should be blocked or protected by the adult credentials you set.
- Keep the PS5 console-restriction passcode, adult login passcode, Xbox family PIN and organizer password private.
- Review the payment source. On PS5, remember that child-account purchases draw from the family manager’s wallet; on Xbox, remove an unnecessary card or require approval for every card purchase.
- Check Family Safety or PlayStation Family activity and purchase notifications after another household member uses the console.
- Write down any subscription renewal date, especially a promotional GTA+ month, and cancel it through the adult account before the next payment if you do not want it to continue.
- On launch day, recheck the ESRB record, platform menu labels and any Rockstar guidance because release information and account interfaces can change.
Which setup should a family choose?
Choose PS5 when you want a clear monthly ceiling that starts at zero and can be managed from the console, web or PlayStation Family app. Choose Xbox when an adult wants to approve each request, provide a strictly finite balance, or combine approval with Microsoft Family Safety’s activity and time tools. On either platform, set the Mature 17+ content decision first, then lock every alternate sign-in route.
There is no platform setting that makes a Mature-rated game age-appropriate, and no spending cap that substitutes for supervision. A child account, a content filter, a purchase rule and protected adult credentials work together; omitting any one of those leaves a predictable bypass.

Can I block GTA 6 completely instead of setting a spending limit?
Yes. On either console, set the child’s age filter below Mature 17+; that blocks the title regardless of whether the account has money. The purchase setting controls transactions, while the age filter controls access, so use both when the child should neither play nor buy it.
Will a zero PlayStation spending limit cancel GTA+?
No. A zero child-account limit prevents that account from making Store purchases, but it does not automatically cancel a subscription already started on an adult account. Check the adult account’s renewal and cancellation terms before the promotional month ends.
Does the physical GTA 6 box include a disc?
No. Rockstar’s announced physical Standard Edition contains a digital download code rather than a disc. Match the PS5 code’s retailer region to the platform-account country to reduce activation problems.

Can my child use a guest account to get around the controls?
They may be able to if guest login or new-user creation remains allowed on PS5, or if Xbox signed-out restrictions are not enabled. Disable those PS5 routes, protect account sign-ins and use Xbox’s Signed-out content restrictions so the child cannot switch to an unrestricted session.
