There is no verified best gun in GTA 6 yet. As of November 2, 2026, the game is still unreleased; Rockstar lists November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Based only on weapons shown in promotional material, the Moreland 850 is a sensible close-range candidate, the Duke 556 is a plausible medium-range rifle, and an unnamed bolt-action-style rifle is the long-range candidate. An unnamed MP5-style SMG is another close-range possibility. These are provisional role-based comparisons, not tested performance rankings. Rockstar’s GTA VI page and official media gallery provide the release and preview context.

What is the best gun in GTA 6 right now?
No gun can honestly be called the best overall before the final game is available and comparable performance has been measured. There are no verified final-game figures here for damage, accuracy, recoil, ammunition capacity, range falloff, or time to kill.
The useful answer for now is a set of candidates by apparent role: the Moreland 850 for close quarters, the Duke 556 as a possible general-purpose rifle, and a bolt-action-style long gun for precision at distance. Treat each as a preview-based inference. A gun’s appearance, familiar real-world counterpart, or on-screen use does not establish how it will perform in the released game.

Which GTA 6 gun looks best for close range?
The Moreland 850 is the clearest preview-based shotgun candidate for a confined fight. In Rockstar’s Extended Look, it appears during a close-quarters combat sequence; that makes it relevant to the role, but does not prove that it will be the strongest or most practical shotgun.
Moreland 850 shotgun
Coverage identifies the shotgun in the Extended Look as the Moreland 850. A shotgun is a reasonable class to consider when opponents are nearby and engagements are short, but the preview does not establish an optimal firing distance, one-shot capability, damage, reload speed, or how the weapon behaves against different targets. Nor does it show whether another shotgun will outperform it.

Its apparent advantage is situational rather than numerical. A weapon shown in a confined encounter is a useful visual clue about intended role, especially for players expecting room-to-room fights, vehicle stops, or sudden encounters at short distance. It is not proof that the same gun remains effective across an open street, against armored targets, or during a prolonged firefight. Those situations require measurements that Rockstar has not published.
For now, the name and its appearance are more certain than any performance conclusion. Rockstar’s official media gallery is the primary place to review the published material; the identification of the weapon in that footage comes from coverage of the preview, not a final-game stat sheet.
Unnamed MP5-style SMG
An SMG visually likened to an MP5 is also shown with both protagonists in promotional footage. It is a plausible close-range alternative for players who prefer a compact automatic weapon, but “MP5-style” describes a visual resemblance; it is not established as the weapon’s official GTA VI name.
Compared with a shotgun, an SMG could prove easier to keep on target during movement and could offer more shots before reloading. Those are class-based possibilities, not confirmed GTA VI behavior. The footage does not settle whether this SMG handles faster than the shotgun, has better sustained damage, or is more accurate at short distances. There is also no sourced head-to-head comparison between it and the Moreland 850.

Choose between them only as a preview-based preference. If the final game rewards a single high-damage blast, the shotgun may suit an aggressive entry. If it rewards tracking a moving target with several controlled shots, the SMG may be more comfortable. Neither outcome can be declared before launch.
What is the best GTA 6 assault rifle for medium range?
The Duke 556 is the named rifle candidate to watch for medium-range use, but it is not yet a confirmed winner. Its appearance in combat footage makes it a plausible all-round rifle choice; no verified comparison establishes its damage, recoil, accuracy, range, or upgrade options.

An assault rifle can be a natural candidate when a player needs a weapon that may cover more distance than a shotgun while remaining useful in ordinary firefights. That is a class-based expectation, not a claim about the Duke 556’s released-game behavior. The available preview evidence does not provide a practical firing distance in meters, rate of fire, magazine capacity, or a measured damage profile.
Medium range is also where handling details matter most. A rifle that looks powerful may be less useful if recoil makes follow-up shots difficult, if aiming takes too long, or if reloads leave a player exposed. Conversely, a lower-damage rifle could be more effective if it keeps shots on target and carries enough ammunition for several opponents. No promotional scene supplies those controlled comparisons.

Other rifles may be present, and public identifications should not be mistaken for a complete, officially confirmed launch inventory. Until comparable gameplay evidence exists, the Duke 556 is best described as a provisional, named example—not a tested recommendation.
Which GTA 6 sniper rifle looks best for long range?
Preview coverage has identified a bolt-action-style rifle as the long-range candidate, but its official GTA VI name and precision performance have not been established. It is appropriate to discuss it as a rifle type, not to give it a confirmed model name or call it the best sniper rifle.
A bolt-action design suggests a precision-oriented role, but that resemblance alone cannot establish accuracy, damage, firing rate, scope options, or whether a single shot can defeat an opponent. The footage also does not establish whether this rifle will outperform another long gun or be available in every mission or mode.
Long-range usefulness involves more than the ability to zoom. A meaningful test would record hit consistency at several distances, time between shots, aim recovery, reload duration, ammunition carried, and the effect of movement or cover. It would also need to show whether targets can survive a hit and escape before a second shot. None of those outcomes is confirmed by the preview imagery.
For a fair long-range comparison after release, the relevant question will not be simply which gun looks most like a real-world sniper rifle. It will be which weapon can reliably hit at the distances players actually encounter, how much aiming and recovery time it requires, and what trade-offs it makes in ammunition and handling. No sourced preview figure answers those questions yet.
Could one weapon cover more than one range?
Weapon classes suggest roles, but they do not create hard distance boundaries. A shotgun may remain useful beyond a doorway if its spread and damage permit it; an assault rifle may work at shorter distance if its handling is quick; and a bolt-action rifle may be impractical whenever enemies rush the player. The final game’s recoil, spread, damage falloff, and aim speed will determine how flexible each candidate really is.

That is why a range comparison should include secondary bands. Test the Moreland 850 and MP5-style SMG in the same close-quarters situations, then check whether either remains practical across a courtyard. Test the Duke 556 from cover and while moving, and check whether it can handle a nearby target without an awkward swap. Test the bolt-action-style rifle against distant targets and during a sudden close encounter. Until those exercises are possible, “close,” “medium,” and “long” are descriptive labels rather than measured limits.
How should you compare these weapons once the game is released?
A useful comparison needs measurements from the same game version and comparable conditions. The preview material does not support numeric rankings, so avoid treating impressions, isolated scenes, or weapon appearances as substitutes for a controlled comparison.

Record enough repetitions to separate a consistent effect from a one-off animation.
- Practical accuracy and recoil: Assess how reliably shots land at stated distances, including follow-up shots, rather than relying on weapon class or visual animation alone. Note both first-shot precision and the ability to control a sequence.
- Fire rate and reload time: A powerful single shot and a fast sequence of shots create different advantages; reloads can change which is more useful in a sustained encounter. Time the full reload and any partial reload behavior separately if the game supports it.
- Magazine and carried ammunition: Capacity and ammunition availability affect how long a weapon remains useful between reloads or resupplies. A gun that looks strong but runs out of ammunition quickly may be a poor choice for a long mission.
- Aiming and handling: Compare how quickly each weapon can be brought on target and how manageable it is while moving or changing targets. Include transitions from sprinting, cover, vehicles, and other common actions where the game permits them.
- Attachments and upgrades: Establish which modifications exist and what measurable effects they have before crediting an attachment with improving a weapon. Cosmetic personalization should not be described as a performance upgrade unless the game demonstrates one.
- Unlocks and restrictions: Record acquisition requirements and any mission or mode limitations; availability can matter as much as raw performance. A weapon that is powerful but restricted may not be the practical choice for the whole campaign.
- Range flexibility: Check whether a rifle or shotgun is still practical outside its apparent main role, rather than assuming strict distance boundaries from its class.
For the comparison to be meaningful, the figures should identify the game version, conditions, and source. A claim about a weapon’s damage or time to kill should not be generalized from a single clip or unexplained encounter. Patch changes, difficulty settings, target armor, and aim assistance can all alter the result, so any later guide should state those conditions clearly.
Are the Ultimate Edition guns better?
Rockstar documents the Ultimate Edition’s Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers and personalized weapon variants as edition benefits, but that does not establish that they have better combat statistics. Edition content is not evidence of a damage advantage, and a premium edition is not shown to be necessary for a capable loadout.
Rockstar’s platforms, editions, and versions support page says the Standard Edition includes the game and that the Ultimate upgrade adds the listed benefits; Standard owners can purchase the upgrade separately. The page establishes what the editions include, not how the Morgan revolvers compare in combat. No evidence here supports calling them pay-to-win, or claiming that they are stronger, weaker, or required.
Take-Two Interactive Software announced a US launch price of $79.99 for the game and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in 2026. Those are publisher announcement figures, not a guarantee of a current retailer price. Check the final listing before buying, and compare edition contents rather than assuming a higher price means better weapons.

For shoppers specifically looking for a physical product, Rockstar says the boxed Standard Edition contains a digital download code and no disc. Its support page also warns that a PlayStation code must match the account region. The same practical distinction matters on Xbox Series X|S: verify that the listing is for the correct console and that the box contains a code rather than assuming it is a traditional disc release.
Buying a boxed code enables access to the game, but it does not provide a demonstrated weapon advantage. A PS5 buyer can look for a “GTA VI PS5 code-in-box” listing, while an Xbox buyer should use the Xbox Series X|S version. Confirm the seller, platform, region, current stock, and return terms before payment. Retail inventory and prices can change, and no particular retailer listing is guaranteed here.

Rockstar’s material establishes the game’s announced release information and supplies the published trailers, Extended Look, and official imagery. Identifying an on-screen weapon or its real-world inspiration is a separate step: a press description does not automatically make that label an official in-game name.
Weapon inventories published by gaming outlets can differ because some list named weapons while others include visual identifications and speculative counterparts. Their counts should not be treated as an authoritative, complete launch roster. For the same reason, “MP5-style” and “bolt-action-style” are more accurate descriptions than presenting either as a confirmed model name.
The reliable boundary is straightforward: the four entries in the table are useful candidates to recognize in preview footage, but their comparative statistics and final-game rankings remain unknown. No verified preview figure supports a damage number, range in meters, or time-to-kill claim.
When should this comparison be updated?
Recheck the article before the announced November 19, 2026 launch. Confirm any schedule change, final weapon names, edition contents, account-region rules, and retailer stock. After release, replace preview language with tests from the retail build and identify the exact game version used. A later update should also check whether patches alter damage, recoil, ammunition, unlocks, or mission restrictions.
Until that evidence exists, the honest conclusion is a role-based preview: Moreland 850 for a confined close fight, the MP5-style SMG as an unnamed close-range alternative, Duke 556 for a provisional medium-range rifle role, and the unnamed bolt-action-style rifle for a provisional long-range role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Moreland 850 the shotgun’s confirmed official name in GTA 6?
Preview coverage identifies it as the Moreland 850, but an appearance and press identification do not by themselves establish Rockstar’s official in-game naming. Check the released game’s weapon menu or Rockstar’s own published materials for confirmation.
What is the best gun in GTA 6 right now?
There is no tested overall winner before launch. The Moreland 850, Duke 556, and bolt-action-style rifle are provisional candidates for different distances, while their damage, recoil, accuracy, ammunition, and time-to-kill values remain unverified.

Does a GTA 6 boxed copy include a disc?
No. Rockstar says the boxed Standard Edition contains a digital download code rather than a disc; for a PlayStation purchase, its support page also says the code must match the account region. Verify the platform and region before buying.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Before the November 19, 2026 release, GTA 6 has no verified best gun.
