To romance characters in Hades II, build their bonds with accepted gifts and character-specific story events. Use the Book of Shadows to check what each character may need next: gift counts alone do not guarantee a romance scene, and story progress can affect when someone is available.
How character bonds and romance work
Gifts and conversations advance relationships, but each character’s story has its own sequence. Supergiant described the June 2025 Unseen Update as expanding character relationships with optional story events that bring Melinoë closer to others. Supergiant Games’ Unseen Update announcement gives the developer’s broad description; it does not publish a complete current romance roster or a universal route checklist.
Offering Nectar is a common way to start a bond. When a character accepts a first gift, they may give Melinoë a Keepsake. After that, continue conversations and encounter-specific events rather than assuming more gifts will unlock a scene by themselves.
How to check progress in the Book of Shadows
After unlocking the Empath’s Intuition Incantation, check character bond information in the Book of Shadows. The relationship symbols can point to an interaction type—such as a Nectar gift, a hot-springs visit, or a fishing invitation—but they are prompts, not a promise that the next scene will trigger immediately. GameSpot’s mechanics guide describes the Book and gift symbols, but it predates the full release, so its older romance-candidate list should not be treated as a current roster: GameSpot: Hades 2 Romance Options.

Access to these activities depends on unlocking the related Crossroads facilities or Incantations, and the character must be available for the interaction.
What to do when a character will not accept a gift
If the Book of Shadows or a character’s response indicates they want nothing more for now, do not keep repeating the same gift in the hope of bypassing a locked story step. Continue runs, advance the main story, complete available conversations or challenges, and check again when the character returns. Appearances and dialogue can be intermittent, so a pause in bond progress does not necessarily mean the route is finished.

Current route requirements reported for four characters
A current secondary guide summarizes requirements for Eris, Icarus, Moros, and Nemesis. Its item counts are guide-reported rather than an official developer-published checklist, and each route includes additional sequence details. Use the in-game Book of Shadows and journal for your own save’s state if a listed requirement does not match what you see. These figures describe the amounts listed by that guide, not a guarantee that giving those items alone unlocks a romance scene. Its summary does not enumerate every story gate, and it does not establish a complete official roster of romanceable characters. An older GameSpot guide names other characters, but because it was written during Early Access, do not combine its list with this newer four-route summary to infer a larger current roster.
