A Hall-effect joystick replacement changes how a DualShock 4 reads stick position; it does not add or improve the controller’s vibration. The DS4’s rumble is a separate feature. Hall-effect modules are discussed as a possible DS4 modification, but available evidence does not establish that a particular module fits every controller revision or permanently prevents stick drift.
Hall-effect sensing and DualShock 4 vibration are different things
A joystick sensor reports stick movement to the controller. Hall-effect sensors use magnetic sensing to read position. Haptic or vibration feedback is an output: the controller moves to create a sensation for the player. Replacing a stick sensor therefore does not, by itself, change the controller’s vibration hardware.

Sony’s PlayStation.Blog FAQ describes traditional rumble as using “two small motors” that spin to create a vibrating or shaking sensation. Sony contrasts that with the DualSense’s dual actuators, but that comparison does not mean a DualShock 4 uses Hall-effect joystick sensors. Sony’s PS5 FAQ, published November 9, 2020.

Sony’s available DualShock 4 documentation describes vibration but does not identify the stock joystick sensor as Hall effect. So it is not established by those documents that a stock DS4 has Hall-effect sticks.

Will a Hall-effect replacement stop stick drift?
Hall-effect replacements are discussed as a DS4 modification in a community thread, but that is not proof that a specific part fits every DS4 revision or will keep working over time. The sources available do not establish a guaranteed drift fix, measured reduction in drift, or permanent immunity. Treat claims of those outcomes cautiously and check the replacement maker’s documentation for the exact module you are considering.
Before choosing a part, verify its compatibility with your controller and board revision, physical dimensions, electrical requirements, calibration process, and whether it preserves stock features. Also check the seller’s return policy and warranty. No specific Hall-effect module or vendor is verified here.

Check your controller model before buying parts
Read the model number on the label on the back of the controller before ordering. DualShock 4 revisions and board families are not interchangeable by assumption: iFixit’s community-contributed repair guide uses model CUH-ZCT1U as its example, directs CUH-ZCT2U owners to the corresponding guides, and lists JDM board families for CUH-ZCT2. Use the guide and parts listing for your exact model rather than relying on a generic “PS4 controller” label. iFixit’s CUH-ZCT1U motherboard replacement guide and iFixit’s DualShock 4 device page.
Try a reset before considering soldering
If the controller is misbehaving, start with Sony’s reset troubleshooting step before opening it or ordering a replacement stick. Follow the instructions for your controller and retest it afterward. Sony’s DualShock 4 troubleshooting guidance.

Replacing the stick is board-level soldering work
The joystick module is soldered to the controller board; this is not a plug-in thumbstick-cap swap. iFixit’s community-contributed guide says a soldering station is required and warns that parts and procedure can vary by model. Removing the old module and fitting another calls for soldering equipment and suitable desoldering tools, plus care around the board.
If you do not already have board-level soldering skills, a reputable repair service is the safer option. Sony’s 2016 DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller Instruction Manual warns, “The vibration function of this product may aggravate injuries,” and tells users not to disassemble or modify the product. Does the DS4’s vibration need to be enabled?
Yes. Sony provides a setting to turn the DualShock 4 vibration function on or off in PS4 settings. If vibration is disabled there, the controller will not vibrate even when a game requests it. Check the setting before treating missing rumble as a joystick-sensor problem. Sony’s PS4 guide to DUALSHOCK 4 settings.
