Halo 3: ODST’s remastered PC version launched through Halo: The Master Chief Collection on September 22, 2020. At launch, it was reported as available through Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass. Those are historical release details, not confirmation of current listings or subscription availability.
Halo 3: ODST PC release date
The PC release arrived on September 22, 2020, as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC). Thurrott reported that it was the fifth remastered Halo title to join MCC on PC. Thurrott’s release report names Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass as access routes at the time.
A later MCC announcement in 2021 also listed ODST among the collection’s PC titles available through Game Pass for PC and for purchase individually through the Microsoft Store or Steam. The 2021 Steam announcement confirms those dated distribution options; it does not establish present-day availability.
What the campaign is about
Unlike the Master Chief-centered perspective familiar from other entries, Halo 3: ODST follows a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers in New Mombasa. The story takes place during the events of Halo 3, as the squad investigates the Covenant attack on the city. The release report describes this premise.

How it was sold on PC
The 2020 release report and subsequent announcements describe more than one way to access the campaign. The prices below are historical USD figures, not current buying guidance.
| Option | What the dated announcement said | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| ODST Campaign by itself | The 2021 MCC announcement listed $4.99 USD for the individual campaign. Source: 2021 Steam announcement. | Someone seeking only the ODST campaign, if a current storefront listing offers it. |
| MCC bundle | The 2021 announcement listed the collection bundle at $39.99 USD. Source: 2021 Steam announcement. | Someone interested in the wider collection rather than only ODST. |
| Xbox Game Pass for PC | The 2020 release report and 2021 MCC announcement named Game Pass as an access route; neither establishes current catalog inclusion or subscription terms. 2020 report; 2021 announcement. | Someone who prefers subscription access, subject to checking the current catalog. |
Xbox Wire had listed $4.99 USD as the planned individual PC price for ODST Campaign in a March 2020 MCC announcement. That article concerned Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, not the ODST launch; it is corroboration of the planned price at that date, not a launch notice. Xbox Wire’s March 2020 announcement.

Later PC support notes
Halo Support’s July 20, 2023 MCC update recorded ODST-related PC notes: a Firefight Theater camera issue and a Custom Game Browser issue in which players joining a Firefight session were not shown a Spectator-mode message while waiting for the current wave to end. These are dated patch-note details, not confirmation that either issue remains in the current build. Halo Support’s July 20, 2023 update.
