Hard Reset Redux is a single-player, cyberpunk first-person shooter built around large enemy encounters, a varied arsenal and destructible environments. Its additions—including a cyber-katana, dash move and new enemy type—give the Redux edition clear points of difference on paper. But the available evidence here is the game’s store description, not hands-on play, so this review can explain what the edition offers without claiming how its combat feels or whether its technical changes deliver.

What is Hard Reset Redux?

Developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment, Hard Reset Redux is a single-player shooter released on Steam on June 3, 2016. Steam categorizes it as an action/adventure game; its description presents it as a first-person shooter set in a cyberpunk world, with enemy-heavy encounters, destructible environments and a varied arsenal. Those are store-page descriptions, not findings from independent gameplay testing.

The official synopsis places the story in Bezoar, a city where humanity is near extinction. Major Fletcher, a soldier in the city’s corporate combat unit, responds when its protective barrier is breached. Machines threaten both Bezoar and the Sanctuary, a network that holds digitized human minds. This is the premise as Steam describes it, rather than an independent account of the campaign.

What’s new in Redux?

Steam identifies both new combat options and broader revisions. The additions give returning players concrete differences to look for, while newcomers get the edition with those changes already included.

Redux change What the store listing says
Cyber-katana A new close-range weapon.
Dash A quick movement option.
Cyborg-zombie A new enemy type.
Visuals and effects Updated visuals and effects.
Performance and loading Improved performance and loading, according to the listing.
Quicksave and gamepad Quicksave and gamepad support are listed.
Difficulty and encounter design Difficulty and pacing were rebalanced, and enemy placement was changed.

The list makes Redux’s intended scope clear: it is not described as just a visual refresh, because it also changes movement, close-range combat, enemies and encounter structure. However, store copy cannot establish whether those changes make the game feel better, how substantially they alter a playthrough, or whether the stated performance improvements hold on current hardware. Those judgments require direct play or independent testing.

What to expect from its combat and pacing

The store description emphasizes enemy-heavy fights, a varied arsenal and destructible environments. The katana and dash suggest additional ways to engage with encounters beyond the original ranged-combat focus, while the new enemy type and reworked placements are intended to change how those fights unfold. The listing does not provide enough detail to assess weapon balance, encounter variety in practice, or how often the new options matter.

The stated rebalance of difficulty and pacing is potentially important for both first-time players and returning ones, but it is not a difficulty guide: no modes, settings, or specific challenge curve are established by the available listing. Treat claims about how demanding or consistently paced the campaign is as unverified unless supported by hands-on coverage.

Is Hard Reset Redux single-player, and where is it listed?

Steam identifies the game as single-player. An official PlayStation Store listing also exists, but store presence alone does not establish current availability in every country or on every platform. Check the relevant regional store page for current platform, purchase and edition details.

  • Fast-paced, old-school shooter game
  • Destroy hordes of enemies
  • Epic boss battles
  • A deep, experience-based weapon upgrade system.High fidelity graphics with full dynamic lighting.Extensive use of physics and dynamic environments.Exclusive in the extended edition: four new creature types, a new boss.Monster, five new campaign levels with a total of about two additional hours of playtime, as well as two new levels for survival mode and an improved graphics engine.

For the PC version, Steam lists these minimum requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows 7 or later.
  • Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64.
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS or ATI Radeon HD 3870, or better.
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c.
  • Storage: 5 GB available space.

Steam’s Windows 7-or-later minimum is the game’s listed requirement, not the current Steam client requirement. Steam says its client has required Windows 10 or later since January 1, 2024, so the older game requirement does not by itself mean the client will run on those older Windows versions.

Who should consider it?

The store description makes Hard Reset Redux easiest to place for players looking for a solo cyberpunk shooter with a focus on weapon variety, destructible settings and dense enemy encounters. The Redux additions may also interest players who already know the original, but the available evidence does not establish whether the revisions are substantial enough to justify another playthrough. A recommendation about feel, value or performance would need firsthand assessment rather than the feature list alone.
