For most first-time collectors, a standard Nendoroid is the safest starting point: it takes little shelf space, offers expressive poses and interchangeable parts, and is easier to collect in a series. Pick a scale figure when you want a single centerpiece with carefully proportioned sculpting. Pick a Taito-style prize figure when the lower entry cost and wide variety of seasonal designs matter more than consistent finish or articulation.
The short answer
These three categories are not simply different prices for the same product. They are different collecting priorities.

| Format | What it prioritizes | Representative Hatsune Miku example | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scale figure | Proportional sculpt, painted detail and display presence | Good Smile Company 1/8 Miku, approximately 180 mm | A centerpiece shelf or a carefully chosen single figure |
| Prize figure | Accessible releases and frequent themed designs | Taito Sakura Miku, 18 cm, PVC/ABS | Collectors who want variety and a lower-cost way into Miku figures |
| Standard Nendoroid | Compact size, articulation, alternate faces and accessories | Good Smile Company Nendoroid Hatsune Miku, non-scale, approximately 100 mm | Small shelves, expressive posing and collecting multiple versions |
| Nendoroid Large | The Nendoroid look at a substantially larger display size | Good Smile Company Nendoroid Large Hatsune Miku, 20 cm | Collectors who want Nendoroid styling without the standard small footprint |
“Scale” describes a proportional ratio such as 1/8 or 1/7. “Prize figure” describes a retail format, not a guaranteed quality grade. “Nendoroid” describes a design line built around stylized proportions, posing and interchangeable parts; it is not one fixed height.
What a scale Hatsune Miku figure is
A scale figure is designed around a stated ratio to a presumed real-world subject or character proportion. The cited Good Smile Company Hatsune Miku is a complete painted PVC figure in 1/8 scale, sculpted by YOSHI and based on Character Vocal Series 01. Its listed height is approximately 180 mm, and the manufacturer presents it as a realistic PVC figure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That ratio gives you a useful way to compare releases, but it does not make every 1/8 figure the same height. Hair, pose, raised arms, instruments, flowing clothing and a large base can all change the total vertical or horizontal space needed. A 1/7 release will generally be larger than a comparable 1/8 design, but the exact footprint still comes from the individual product.
Why collectors choose scale
- Centerpiece presence: the larger format gives a single design visual weight on a shelf.
- Proportion and sculpt focus: the purchase is primarily about the sculpt, paintwork, pose and composition rather than play features.
- Display-first design: most scale figures are intended to remain in one presentation pose. Articulation, if present, depends on the specific release.
- Edition-specific planning: the base, support hardware and extended elements can matter as much as the stated scale when you measure a cabinet.
Scale prices are release-specific
There is no single “scale Miku price.” Good Smile US catalog examples currently include a 1/7 Hatsune Miku Symphony figure at $307.99 and a 1/7 Digital Stars 2024 figure at $184.99. These are catalog prices for those named releases, not a universal price for every 1/7 or 1/8 figure. Stock status can also differ because the catalog contains both preorder and available-now listings.
What a prize figure is
A prize figure is sold as part of an anime prize-figure market, with releases commonly identified by the manufacturer and specific series rather than by one universal scale. The cited Sakura Miku listing identifies Taito Corporation as the manufacturer, PVC/ABS as the material, and a height of 18 cm. That release dates to 2019.
Because “prize figure” covers many releases, compare the exact version instead of assuming that one Taito Miku represents every prize figure. Sculpt complexity, paint application, base shape, included support, release date and current market price can all differ.
Why prize figures appeal to collectors
- Lower barrier to entry: they are a practical way to begin collecting without committing to the price of a premium centerpiece.
- Design variety: seasonal, event and costume concepts can appear in a steady stream, making it possible to build a themed group.
- Useful scale on a shelf: the cited Sakura Miku is close to the physical height of many larger display figures, even though it is not a stated scale figure.
- Release-by-release evaluation: value depends on the particular sculpt and production, so inspect photos of the exact release and not merely the category label.
What “prize” does not tell you
The term does not establish a fixed ratio, a guaranteed paint standard, a universal base size or a particular articulation scheme. A listing that only says “Hatsune Miku prize figure” is incomplete for a buying decision. Identify the manufacturer, character version, release year, height, materials, base and seller before you compare it with another figure.

What a Nendoroid is
The standard Nendoroid Hatsune Miku is a complete painted ABS and PVC poseable, non-scale figure approximately 100 mm high. Good Smile Company lists separate arms, heads, legs and accessories in the package, including alternate expressions and the leek accessory. The original release is listed as March 2008.
Nendoroid proportions are intentionally stylized rather than a literal 1/7 or 1/8 representation. The appeal is the combination of a compact body, expressive face plates, replaceable parts and a poseable presentation. The exact parts in the box depend on the edition, so an older release and a later themed release should not be assumed to have the same accessories.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteNendoroid is a line, not one size
Good Smile Company also lists a Nendoroid Large Hatsune Miku at 20 cm. It was announced for Smile Fest 2025 and listed at ¥15,000 on the official page. The larger version keeps the Nendoroid identity while changing the space and budget calculation. Check the individual product page whenever cabinet clearance or compatibility matters.
Why collectors choose Nendoroids
- Small-shelf friendliness: the standard format fits spaces where a taller scale figure may not.
- Expression and posing: alternate faces and replaceable limbs let one figure represent several moods or scenes.
- Variant collecting: the line supports themed versions while keeping a recognizable visual language.
- Parts-based buying: included accessories, edition number and compatibility are important purchase checks, not minor details.
Scale figures, prize figures and Nendoroids compared
| Buying axis | Scale figure | Prize figure | Nendoroid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proportion | Defined ratio such as 1/8 or 1/7 | Usually non-scale and release-specific | Non-scale stylized proportions |
| Representative height | 180 mm for the cited 1/8 example | 180 mm for the cited Taito Sakura Miku example | 100 mm standard; 200 mm Large version |
| Materials | Painted PVC | PVC/ABS in the cited Taito example | Painted ABS/PVC |
| Posing | Usually display-oriented; articulation varies by model | Usually more limited than Nendoroid; verify each release | Poseable, with interchangeable parts and faces |
| Typical reason to buy | Centerpiece display and sculpt detail | Budget-conscious variety and seasonal designs | Compact display, expressive poses and variants |
| Most important listing check | Scale, footprint, support or base and preorder timing | Exact manufacturer and version, paint, base, release date and current price | Edition number, included parts, compatibility and seller authenticity |
How to choose your first Miku figure
Choose a standard Nendoroid if your shelf is small
Start with the standard Nendoroid when vertical clearance is tight, you want to change poses, or you expect to collect several Miku designs. Its non-scale format avoids the need to match it to a proportional figure, and the interchangeable parts make one purchase more interactive than a fixed display sculpt.
Choose a scale figure if one design must anchor the display
Choose scale when you are buying for visual impact rather than maximum variety. Compare the exact base and support dimensions before ordering, especially for designs with long twin-tails, musical props or a dynamic stance. A scale figure makes sense when you can give one release a prominent position and are comfortable with release-specific pricing.

Choose a prize figure when variety and budget lead
Choose a prize figure when you would rather own several themed designs than one premium centerpiece. Treat each release as its own product: check photographs, the listed height, base and manufacturer, and compare the current asking price with other examples of the same release.
Choose Nendoroid Large when you want the style without the tiny format
The Large edition is the compromise for collectors who prefer Nendoroid faces and parts but have room for a much bigger object. It should be planned like a larger display figure, not assumed to occupy the same footprint as a standard Nendoroid.
A practical buying checklist
Before buying a scale figure
- Record the stated ratio and the listed height.
- Measure shelf height, depth and the space needed for the base, support and projecting hair or accessories.
- Confirm whether the listing is a preorder or available now.
- Read the exact release name; two Miku figures from the same manufacturer can have very different prices.
- Check the seller, packaging photos and return policy, particularly for an expensive release.
Before buying a prize figure
- Search by the manufacturer and exact release name, such as “Taito Hatsune Miku prize figure,” rather than relying on a generic category.
- Confirm the character variant and release year.
- Check the listed height, PVC/ABS materials, base and support pieces.
- Compare clear photographs of the paint and face with the official or manufacturer listing when available.
- Compare the current market price for that release; do not apply a fixed “prize figure” value to every item.
Before buying a Nendoroid
- Identify the edition and release number.
- List the included faces, limbs, accessories and display stand.
- Confirm whether the product is the standard size or a Large version.
- Check the seller and packaging for authenticity, especially when a listing is far below other current offers.
- Verify that the parts shown in the listing belong to that edition; accessory bundles differ between releases.
Planning shelf space
Use the manufacturer’s stated height as a starting point, not the entire space calculation. A figure’s base consumes depth, while hair, props and raised limbs can extend beyond the body. For a scale or prize figure, measure the actual display footprint shown in product photographs when available. For a standard Nendoroid, leave room to change faces and limbs without striking neighboring figures.
If you collect across formats, arrange by purpose rather than forcing equal spacing. A scale piece can serve as the visual anchor, prize figures can form a themed row, and standard Nendoroids can occupy a shallower shelf or riser. Keep the larger Nendoroid in the same planning category as a tall display figure because its 20 cm body changes clearance requirements.
Price, stock and release timing
Price comparisons only work when the edition and region match. The Good Smile US examples of $307.99 for a 1/7 Hatsune Miku Symphony figure and $184.99 for a 1/7 Digital Stars 2024 figure demonstrate how far two scale releases can differ. They should be read as current catalog examples, not as a price range for all scale figures.

Good Smile US separates preorder and available-now inventory, so a listed price does not by itself tell you when the item will ship. Check stock status at the time you buy, then account for shipping, taxes and regional availability. A prize figure’s current resale price can likewise diverge from its original retail context, particularly when the release is several years old.

Mistake: treating “1/7” or “1/8” as a complete size specification
Fix: use the ratio to understand proportion, then read the listed height and base dimensions. Dynamic poses can consume more room than a standing pose at the same ratio.
Mistake: assuming every prize figure has the same finish
Fix: evaluate the exact manufacturer, version, photos, paint, base and release date. “Prize figure” is a format label, not a single construction standard.
Mistake: buying a Nendoroid without checking the box contents
Fix: confirm edition-specific faces, limbs, accessories and stand before paying. Standard Nendoroid Miku has a well-known parts-based format, but later versions can include different combinations.
Mistake: measuring only the character’s body
Fix: measure the base, support arm, hair and props as a complete display. Leave handling space if you plan to change poses or parts.

Mistake: comparing a preorder with an in-stock listing as if they were equivalent

Three collection paths that work
The compact, expressive collection
Begin with one standard Nendoroid, learn which expressions and poses you actually use, then add later editions selectively. This path minimizes shelf pressure and lets you build a coherent group without needing every release.
The centerpiece collection
Select one scale Miku whose costume and pose match your room, measure the display area first, and make the base and support part of the design decision. Add another scale figure only when it contributes a distinct composition rather than simply duplicating the same stance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The themed variety collection
Use prize releases to follow seasonal or event designs, but catalog each purchase by manufacturer, version and year. Mixing a few carefully chosen prize figures with one Nendoroid gives visual variety while keeping the budget and footprint under control.
Final decision
Buy the standard Nendoroid if your priorities are compact storage, poseability and interchangeable expressions. Buy a scale figure if you want the most authoritative centerpiece and are prepared to judge each release by its sculpt, base and price. Buy a prize figure if affordable variety matters most and you are willing to compare releases individually. The right choice is the format that matches your available space and the way you want to interact with your collection—not the one with the highest nominal scale or the lowest listed price.
