The squadmate joke is best taken as a wink, not a confirmed warning.
What is the “dangerous” weapon in Dust Devils?
It is the AR-2 Coyote. Arrowhead describes it as an assault rifle with incendiary ammunition, and its promotional copy calls it a wild coyote. That description establishes its weapon type and ammunition, not a special friendly-fire effect, damage figure, or measured danger to teammates. The announcement does not provide those details.

In Helldivers 2, the incendiary label makes fire the key feature to consider when choosing the rifle. But the official Dust Devils descriptions do not establish whether the Coyote is more likely than other weapons to hurt allies, or how it compares with other assault rifles in live play.
What else is in the Dust Devils Warbond?
Arrowhead’s August 26, 2025 announcement described Dust Devils as a Premium Warbond containing one primary weapon, one throwable, three stratagems, armor, and cosmetic rewards. The announced equipment is:

The Speargun is not described as a conventional firearm: Arrowhead’s item description says its projectiles release gas on impact. That is the stated effect; the announcement does not give damage, range, or comparative performance figures.
Armor and cosmetic rewards
The announcement lists two armor sets: DS-42 Federation’s Blade and DS-191 Scorpion. Both have the Desert Stormer passive, which Arrowhead describes as providing resistance to fire, gas, acid, and arc, along with increased throw range.

Other listed rewards include capes, player cards, an emote, the player title “Burier of Heads,” and the “Rattlesnake” pattern for vehicles and Hellpods.
How was Dust Devils unlocked at launch?
In its August 26, 2025 announcement, Arrowhead said unlocking the Warbond required the base game, paid Super Credits, and game progression. That is the launch announcement’s description of the requirements; it does not verify today’s store flow, price, or availability.

What is known about its release and current status?
Arrowhead and the PlayStation Blog announced a September 4, 2025 release for Dust Devils. The announcements establish the planned launch date and describe the contents, but they do not establish its current availability, price, or present-day weapon balance. They also do not provide enough comparative gameplay evidence to rank the Coyote or other Warbond weapons against alternatives.
