PlayStation announced the update as live on December 12, 2024; Arrowhead’s patch 01.002.001 record is dated December 17, 2024. Those are separate publication events, not conflicting launch dates.
What changed in Omens of Tyranny?
The update’s three defining additions were a returning enemy faction, urban colony mission areas, and a vehicle for faster reconnaissance and combat.

The Illuminate returned to the conflict
The December 12 PlayStation Blog announcement framed Omens of Tyranny around the Illuminate’s return. The faction’s arrival shifted the update’s conflict beyond the enemies players had previously faced. The official announcement and patch record cited here do not establish a complete Illuminate enemy roster, so they are not a reliable guide to every enemy type or mechanic.
Missions moved into Super Earth colonies
Arrowhead’s patch notes say the update added mission areas inside Super Earth colonies. That put combat in urban surroundings rather than limiting missions to more open terrain: the setting includes colony streets where the returning Illuminate could be confronted.

The Fast Recon Vehicle brought speed and manual shifting
Arrowhead’s patch record says: “A Fast Recon Vehicle “FRV” will now appear in the colonies, ready to plow through the Illuminate at high speed.” The PlayStation Blog describes it as a “manual transmission reconnaissance and combat vehicle.” Together, those descriptions establish its intended role and the manual transmission, but not detailed performance specifications or how its mechanics may have changed in later patches.
Why the official dates differ
The PlayStation Blog published its announcement on December 12, 2024, describing the update as live. Arrowhead’s patch 01.002.001 record carries a December 17, 2024 date. The first is the date of the PlayStation announcement; the second is the date attached to Arrowhead’s patch record. They document separate publication events.

The PlayStation Blog identifies Helldivers 2 as a PS5 and PC game. The cited announcement and patch notes document the update’s original launch-era features; they do not establish the game’s current 2026 roster, balance, or the FRV’s present availability and mechanics. They also do not verify current retail stock, price, or the availability of a physical PS5 edition.
