The latest listed Helldivers 2 update, Devoid of Liberty: 7.1.0, dated October 7, 2026, fixes several specific crash and disconnect scenarios—not every crash players may encounter. Its notes cover bunker-cache levels, hot-joining Oil Rig missions, and a weapon-function interaction; they call one additional fix “potential.” If your problem continues, use the symptom-specific steps below and report reproducible bugs to Arrowhead.
What crashes does Helldivers 2 patch 7.1.0 fix?
Arrowhead’s Devoid of Liberty: 7.1.0 notes list these crash-related changes:
- A crash or network disconnect on levels containing bunker caches.
- A rare crash that could occur while hot-joining an Oil Rig mission.
- A crash that could occur when cycling weapon functions with the TED-63 Dynamite equipped while using a mounted weapon.
- A potential fix for a crash when an object was destroyed in the same frame that it was being attached to another object. Arrowhead describes this one as a potential fix, rather than a confirmed fix.
The same update also addresses other issues, including a tutorial soft lock and customized vehicle previews that could crash after patterns were changed rapidly. These examples are not a complete list of the patch’s gameplay and interface changes. Patch notes describe the issues addressed; they do not establish that all crashes are gone.
Earlier crash fixes are not a current known-issues list
For comparison, Arrowhead’s Patch 01.000.004 notes, dated August 27, 2026, listed fixes for crashes when pressing ESC to open the menu or O to open the social tab, after matchmaking, after interacting with the Armory before a first dive, and when equipping the MP-98 Knight. Those notes also warned that some matchmaking instability could continue at the time. This older patch history does not indicate which issues remain in the current build.

What to try if the problem persists
Steam: a few files failing validation
Arrowhead says a small number of Steam validation failures can be normal: authentication files are regenerated and sent to its backend each time the game launches. If 10 or more files constantly need validation, its Steam validation guidance suggests updating drivers, reinstalling the game, or deleting the contents of the Helldivers 2 AppData folder. Deleting that folder’s contents resets in-game settings. These steps address persistent validation warnings; they are not a universal crash fix.
PC: black screen with opening-cinematic audio
If the game starts to a black screen while you can still hear the opening cinematic, Arrowhead’s black-screen support article gives a targeted adapter-setting workaround:

This instruction is for the black-screen-with-audio symptom. If it does not resolve that problem, submit a support ticket.

- Install available Helldivers 2 and PS5 system software updates.
- Use Safe Mode to clear the console cache or rebuild its database.
- If you suspect corrupted game data, delete and reinstall the game.
- Check that the console has adequate ventilation.
- If the issue appears related to graphics or connected hardware, try lower graphics settings if available, disable HDR or 4K, or disconnect external devices.
- If crashes tend to follow Rest Mode, try disabling Rest Mode and see whether the pattern changes.
