Hollow Knight: Silksong launched on September 4, 2025, with native support for 21:9 ultrawide displays and 16:10 screens such as the Steam Deck’s. The limit matters: launch testing found that 32:9 super-ultrawide and 4:3 displays are not supported. So the PC version is a strong fit for conventional ultrawide monitors, but owners of a 32:9 screen should not assume the game will fill it.
Which aspect ratios does Silksong support?
Launch-day checks found 21:9 and 16:10 display options in the PC version. The most accurate shorthand is that Silksong supports up to 21:9, plus 16:10—not every aspect ratio that might be described as wide. The limits below reflect launch coverage, rather than a comprehensive official compatibility list from Team Cherry.

| Display ratio | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 16:9 | Standard widescreen baseline. |
| 16:10 | Supported; useful for the Steam Deck and compatible laptops or monitors. |
| 21:9 | Supported. Common examples include 2560×1080 and 3440×1440, though support does not guarantee identical results on every monitor or PC. |
| 32:9 | Not supported according to PC Gamer’s launch testing. A 5120×1440 monitor should not be assumed to display the game across its full width. |
| 4:3 | Reported unsupported in launch coverage. |
Team Cherry-associated confirmation ahead of release established the intended ultrawide feature; launch-day reporting then found the relevant options in the released PC build. That makes this a launch feature, not a promise of a later patch or a requirement to install a community fix. See the pre-release confirmation and PC Gamer’s launch testing.
What 21:9 support means for monitor owners
If your display is 21:9, native support removes the need to rely on unofficial widescreen patches just to use that aspect ratio. A 2560×1080 monitor and a 3440×1440 monitor are both common 21:9 examples. The available reporting confirms the ratio, not every possible resolution, refresh rate, GPU combination, field-of-view setting, or camera-framing behavior.

Check the monitor’s actual ratio before buying for this feature. “Ultrawide” is often used broadly, but 32:9 is a different case: launch testing found it unsupported. Depending on the game and display setup, a 32:9 owner could encounter unused screen area or another constrained presentation; the available reporting does not establish one universal behavior. If full-screen 32:9 play is the deciding factor, check the storefront’s current refund terms rather than assuming 21:9 support scales up.
What Steam Deck players get from 16:10
The Steam Deck’s built-in screen is 16:10, not ultrawide. Support for that ratio lets Silksong accommodate the Deck’s screen shape rather than treating 16:9 as the only target. PC Gamer also reported that the game was Steam Deck Verified at launch.

Aspect-ratio support is separate from performance, resolution, or refresh-rate guarantees. It does not establish how every other handheld will run the game, nor does Steam Deck verification by itself promise a particular frame rate on a different device.
Why the feature stands out compared with the original Hollow Knight
The original Hollow Knight lacked official 21:9 support in its original PC release, so native 21:9 in Silksong was a meaningful improvement for ultrawide PC players. Team Cherry later announced 16:10 and 21:9 support for public-beta branches of the original game on Steam and GOG. That later update concerns Hollow Knight, not the source of Silksong’s launch support. GameSpot’s comparison covers the original game’s earlier limitation, and Team Cherry’s announcement describes the original game’s later beta update.

Release, PC options, and where to play
Silksong released on September 4, 2025. Team Cherry’s announcement listed Windows, Mac, and Linux for PC; the Steam listing includes system requirements and currently shows a US price of $19.99, which can vary by region or change over time. Steam lists Windows 10 version 21H1 or newer and, among its minimum GPU examples, a GeForce GTX 1050 2GB or Radeon R9 380 2GB. Requirements are not a performance guarantee at a particular ultrawide resolution.
Launch coverage also reported an uncapped-framerate option and full keyboard input support. An uncapped option allows the game to run without that specific cap; it does not guarantee a given frame rate on a given PC. The key PC-specific buying benefit here is display compatibility, rather than a promise of a particular performance result.

PC players can buy the game through Steam or check the Xbox PC listing. Subscription access, including PC Game Pass, is distinct from owning a Steam copy, and catalog availability and plan terms can change. Console players generally use the output and display formats supported by their console setup; the ultrawide advantage described here is specifically a PC feature.
Is the PC version the right choice for your display?
- 21:9 monitor: The PC version has the clearest display-specific advantage: native support was present at launch.
- Steam Deck or 16:10 screen: The game supports the screen ratio, and the Deck was reported Verified at launch. That does not promise identical performance across handhelds.
- 32:9 monitor: Do not buy on the assumption of full native super-ultrawide support; launch testing found 32:9 unsupported.
- 16:9 screen: Ultrawide support does not materially change the platform decision. Choose based on where you want to play and what access you already have.
Team Cherry announced the PC release on August 21, 2025, ahead of the September 4 launch. The feature is no longer breaking news, but the distinction between 21:9 support and the 32:9 limit remains useful when choosing a platform or setting expectations for an existing monitor. Team Cherry’s Steam announcements record the release information.
