The official Monster Hunter Wilds High Resolution Texture Pack is free Steam DLC, but it is not a safe default for every PC: Steam lists 16 GB of VRAM as the minimum and warns that insufficient graphics memory can make the game unstable even with a lower texture setting. This guide covers the Steam version on Windows PC.
Check your PC before installing
Steam’s listing specifies 16 GB of graphics memory as the pack’s minimum. It lists the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super and AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT as examples of 16 GB cards. Treat that figure as an installation minimum, not a promise of smooth performance: resolution, other graphics settings, background VRAM use, drivers, and the game build can all affect results.
If your GPU has less than 16 GB of VRAM, or the game already stutters, crashes, or reports memory pressure, the safest choice is to skip the pack. Capcom warns that inadequate graphics memory can cause textures not to display correctly or make the game unstable regardless of the selected Texture Quality setting. Steam also lists Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, DirectX 12, 16 GB of system RAM, an SSD, and 75 GB of available storage in the DLC’s published requirements; that storage figure is not the pack’s separately stated download size. Check Steam’s official requirements and listing.
Install the official Steam texture pack
The official pack is a Capcom-published, free Steam DLC item that requires the Steam base game. Install it through Steam’s DLC controls; there is no need to copy files manually or use a mod loader.

Choose a texture setting in the game
Installing the DLC and selecting a texture setting are separate steps. In the game’s graphics settings, find Texture Quality and choose a level your system can sustain; apply the change and restart if the game prompts you. The pack provides higher-resolution texture assets. It does not increase rendering resolution or automatically improve lighting, shadows, geometry, anti-aliasing, frame rate, or every other visual setting.
Do not assume a lower Texture Quality setting makes the installed pack safe on a GPU below the official minimum. Capcom’s listing specifically warns that insufficient graphics memory may cause instability regardless of that option.

- This Nintendo Switch system takes you to new heights with art inspired by the flagship monster, magnamalo, from the action-RPG title monster Hunter Rise.
- The eye catching metallic artwork features game inspired iconography on the Nintendo Switch Console, Joy-Con controllers, and the Nintendo Switch dock.
- As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a digital code for monster Hunter Rise + Deluxe kit DLC that includes the game and additional in-game content.
Check whether the pack is active
- In Steam, confirm the DLC is enabled in Properties → DLC.
- In the game, check that Texture Quality is set as intended.
- Look at detailed surfaces at close range for possible improvements; the difference will not necessarily be dramatic on every object or in every scene.
A blurry texture or an unchanged-looking scene does not by itself prove that installation failed. The selected setting, available VRAM, and texture streaming can affect which assets appear. The official listing does not establish a particular in-game indicator or visual test that proves the pack is active.

If crashes or instability begin after installation, first test the game without the DLC rather than immediately changing configuration files or adding other mods.
- Close the game.
- In Steam Library, right-click Monster Hunter Wilds and select Properties.
- Open DLC and untick the High Resolution Texture Pack in the Install column.
- Restart Steam, then launch the game and see whether the problem remains.
This disables the DLC through Steam; you do not need to remove or reinstall the base game. If the issue continues without the pack, the DLC may not be the cause.

Official DLC and community texture mods are different
The official pack is managed by Steam and is distinct from unofficial mod files. Community options add separate installation and compatibility considerations, and their features or instructions may change after game updates.
- Hi-res Monster and Others is a community texture project whose listing describes manual installation of a
HiresMonster.pakfile or installation through Fluffy Mod Manager. It is not Capcom’s official DLC or a guaranteed fix for performance or texture issues. - MHWilds Graphics Enhancement is a separate community project that requires REFramework and describes additional graphics and texture-streaming controls.
For troubleshooting, disable graphics mods before testing the official DLC on its own. Avoid combining multiple texture-overhaul approaches unless you have checked their compatibility notes, and keep track of changed settings or files so you can restore them. Recheck mod instructions after game updates.
