HoYoverse describes it as a creature-collector adventure strategy game set in the Honkai series. Its creature bonding and exploration invite the comparison to Pokémon, but a Gamescom 2026 hands-on report describes its battles as auto-battles, not Pokémon-style turn-based fights.
What is Honkai: Nexus Anima?
Honkai: Nexus Anima is a creature-collector game announced by miHoYo on August 29, 2025. The company’s official description, reproduced in Gematsu’s announcement coverage, calls it “a brand-new creature-collector adventure strategy game in the Honkai series.” That places it in the broader Honkai franchise, but does not establish that the specific team behind Honkai: Star Rail is developing it.
How does the premise work?
The story centers on Nexus bonds between paired concepts being severed, leaving remnants scattered as Anima. Players travel through missions and combat, bond with Anima companions, and use their abilities in exploration and battle. The game’s collection element is therefore tied to recruiting companions and making use of their powers, rather than simply collecting creatures as an end in itself.
How is it like Pokémon—and how is it different?
The comparison makes sense at the broad level: both games feature collectible creatures, companion relationships, exploration, and battles. The key reported difference is the battle format. In a TechRadar hands-on report from Gamescom 2026, battles in the shown build took place in top-down arenas, with teams using up to three cooldown-based ability cards. The reporter described them as auto-battles, rather than conventional turn-based Pokémon combat.

That description applies to the Gamescom build, not necessarily the finished game. HoYoverse has not established final combat details or balance in the cited material, so the report is best read as a snapshot of how the game played at that event.
What platforms and test details are known?
Availability has changed as the game has moved through testing. The first Nexus Bond Test recruitment was reported open for PC and iOS in August 2025. TechRadar reported in September 2026 that the game had held two closed betas, was coming to PC, iOS, and Android, and had preregistration open at that time.

No verified final release date is established by the cited sources. The game remains in development, and its test and preregistration history should not be mistaken for a launch announcement. Final platforms, monetization, and complete test terms are also not confirmed in these reports.
