There is no PS5 version in the announced platform list. The careful answer to “Is Horizon Steel Frontiers coming to PS5?” is that a PS5 release has not been announced; the available announcements do not rule out a later one. NCSOFT’s reveal announcement and Guerrilla’s announcement describe the confirmed platforms.
What kind of Horizon game is it?
Horizon Steel Frontiers is an MMORPG set in the Horizon universe. NCSOFT announced it at G-Star 2025. The game is being developed and published by NCSOFT in collaboration with Guerrilla, the Horizon studio under Sony Interactive Entertainment. Guerrilla describes its contribution as support for NCSOFT’s development, so it is more precise to describe this as an NCSOFT-led project with Guerrilla collaboration than as a game developed by Sony or Guerrilla alone.

Where does the game take place?
The game’s setting is the Deadlands, described in the announcement as the land of machine hunters. In an interview reported by GameSpot, NCSOFT executive producer Sunggu Lee said the region was inspired by Arizona and New Mexico. That real-world inspiration comes from Lee’s interview, rather than the official reveal announcement. GameSpot’s November 14, 2025 report covers his comments.
How will its combat differ from the console Horizon games?
NCSOFT says Steel Frontiers builds on Horizon’s machine-hunting action while adding MMORPG systems, customizable combat, and more player freedom. The reveal trailer shows machines and large-scale battles, but those visuals alone do not establish specific playable modes or their final rules.

Lee told GameSpot that combat has been redesigned for multiplayer hunting, with distance management and quick decisions about whether to attack or dodge. He also named Capcom’s Monster Hunter series as one inspiration. Lee described the intended platform distinction this way: “Mobile offers quick, on-the-go session play, while PC provides a richer, more strategic combat experience–each platform playing to its strengths.” These are the producer’s descriptions of the design goals, not a guarantee that the two versions will have entirely different content.
Will characters from the original Horizon games appear?
That had not been decided as of Lee’s November 14, 2025 interview with GameSpot. He said, “We haven’t finalized whether characters from the original game will appear, so it’s too early to share any specific plans.” The setting is established as part of the Horizon universe, but the interview did not confirm appearances by particular characters.

Is there a release date, price, or payment model?
The official announcement does not provide a launch date or release window. GameSpot reported on November 14, 2025 that there was no release date at that point; the official sources cited here do not establish a later schedule. A current launch date therefore remains unconfirmed in these sources.
The official materials reviewed also do not state a price, subscription requirement, free-to-play status, or in-game purchase plan. NCSOFT’s other games are not evidence of this title’s payment model.
