What penalties has Capcom announced?
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds Arena Quest notice describes three distinct possible consequences for prohibited or irregular ranking activity:
- Leaderboard: Capcom may remove an offending time from the rankings.
- Quest rewards: A player may lose eligibility for rewards associated with that time.
- Account: Capcom says it may take action against accounts belonging to players it determines committed prohibited acts; reporting on the policy describes restrictions or bans.
These are possible outcomes, not an automatic penalty ladder. The notice does not say that every unusually fast clear, every mod, or every player who shares a multiplayer session with a cheater will receive the same punishment. Capcom says its own investigations determine whether a prohibited act occurred.
What changed after the first time-based competition quest?
The first time-based competition quest, “Doshaguma of the Hollow,” initially tied its pendant reward to a top-10,000 leaderboard placement. On April 16, 2025, Automaton West reported that Capcom changed the requirement to completing the quest with an A-rank time. The report also said Capcom planned to keep rankings visible while future time-based Challenge Quests would not require a specific leaderboard position to earn rewards. Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.

The reward adjustment changed how players could qualify for that event’s pendant; it did not itself replace Capcom’s separate stated enforcement options for ranking misconduct.
What does Capcom say about detection?
Capcom says it reviews ranking times for prohibited actions and irregularities and bases its decisions on investigations. The available notice does not explain which technical signals it checks, how it distinguishes misconduct from a legitimate fast run, or what evidence threshold leads to an account restriction or ban. Claims about particular anti-cheat software, telemetry, or automatic detection would therefore go beyond what Capcom has publicly specified here.

In its 2024 shareholder Q&A, Capcom said Wilds would support cross-play and asked players to wait for further details about handling cheating and mods. That was earlier context, not the later Arena Quest and Challenge Quest enforcement notice. The distinction matters: the later policy states possible consequences for ranking activity, but does not establish a universal rule for every kind of modification or every multiplayer situation.
