To craft in Terraria, keep the required ingredients available, meet any station or environment requirement, and check the crafting window. Most station recipes appear when you stand near the needed station; you usually do not have to open it. If you do not know what a material makes, ask the Guide NPC about it.
How Terraria crafting works
Crafting combines ingredients into new items. The crafting window lists results you can make with the materials and conditions currently available. Nearby stations can contribute recipes together, so a crafting area with several useful stations can make more options accessible at once. Terraria Wiki: Recipes

- Have the recipe’s ingredients available.
- Stand near any required crafting station; for the usual crafting window, opening the station interface is not necessary.
- Meet any additional condition, such as being near a particular liquid or in a particular biome.
- Choose the result from the crafting window.
Which crafting stations do you need?
The Work Bench is the first crafting station available. As you explore and acquire new materials, add stations when a recipe calls for them rather than trying to build a complete station collection at the start. Keeping useful stations close together is convenient, and some recipes require more than one station. How to find out what an item crafts into
Check what you can make now
Use the crafting window when you already have materials and want to see which results are currently craftable. It reflects what is available to you under your present conditions.

Ask the Guide about a material
When you have a material but do not know its uses or lack ingredients for a recipe, talk to the Guide and ask about that material. The Guide can show recipes that use it and identify the required station. This is especially useful for discovering a recipe you cannot yet craft. Terraria Wiki: Crafting 101
Browse a reference for a wider search
A maintained recipe or station reference is useful when you want to browse beyond what your inventory currently makes available. Check that it matches your platform and game version, particularly if the instructions do not match what you see in-game.

Why a recipe may not appear
- Ingredients: Check that you have every listed ingredient available. The crafting window shows items you can currently craft, not every recipe in the game.
- Station proximity: Verify the recipe’s station requirement and stand close enough to it. You generally do not need to open the station menu.
- Extra conditions: Look for a second station or a liquid or biome requirement; meeting only the station requirement may not be enough.
- Recipe discovery: If you are unsure what an ingredient is used for, ask the Guide about that material.
- Version or platform mismatch: Confirm your game version and platform, then use a reference that applies to them.
Version and platform caveats
Terraria’s official forum announced version 1.4.5 on January 27, 2026, for PC, console, and mobile, excluding the bespoke China Mobile edition. Later official forum material uses inconsistent hotfix labels: the September 2026 State of the Game page refers to lingering fixes from 1.4.5.8, while embedded update text calls 1.4.5.7 the latest and last hotfix and discusses mobile and console submissions. Those statements do not establish one current build number across platforms. Check the build shown for your own platform and use the matching reference. The official Crafting 101 guide is marked as subject to revision and potentially outdated. The crafting-stations reference points users of Old-gen console and 3DS to separate legacy information, so current-version instructions may not apply to those editions.
