Talk to the children, use Celestial Seize to take a key from guard Liang Xiaobao, read the diary in the Hall Master’s upstairs room, then return to the children to finish the tale.
How to start “How Deep the Sorrow”
Go to Heavenfall in Kaifeng’s Roaring Sands and find the children near the entrance to Bloodscale Hall. They are described as sitting on boxes by the gate. Speak with them to learn about the locked chest and the guard who has its key.
How to get the chest key from Liang
Find guard Liang Xiaobao, whose name is also rendered Liang Xiaobo in one walkthrough. He is around the Bloodscale Hall entrance. Face the entrance and check the platform to the right; nearby high ground, including the roof of a hut, can also help you spot him. Follow the quest marker if your route or view differs.
- Approach Liang and use Celestial Seize to take the key.
- Once you have it, head upstairs into the Hall Master’s room.
Where to find and open the chest
Go to the second floor of Bloodscale Hall and enter the Hall Master’s room or bedroom. Use Liang’s key on the small chest there, then read the diary or notebook inside.

How to finish the tale
Return to the children by the entrance and complete their conversation. One walkthrough reports that the dialogue choices lead to the same outcome; another suggests a response about the Hall Master loving to see them laugh. The wording can vary by localization or game build, so continue the conversation rather than relying on an exact prompt.

Walkthroughs agree on 10 Kaifeng Exploration and 1,500 coins, but they disagree on the Echo Jade amount. Game8 and GameTrek list 20 Echo Jade, while Nerd’s Chalk lists 70. The guides also label the experience reward differently: Character EXP in Game8 and GameTrek, Stored EXP in Nerd’s Chalk.
