Then open Minecraft with that same account and check the correct destination: the Launcher for a PC game license, Marketplace for Minecoins, Dressing Room for character items, or the Realms section for a Realms reward.
There is one important exception: if you have a 10-digit code, the Minecraft redemption page directs you to xbox.codetocontent.com instead. Do not enter it into the 25-character code field.

First, identify what your Minecraft code unlocks
“Minecraft code” can refer to several different products. A code for the PC game is not the same as Minecoins or a Bedrock skin, and the result may only work with a particular edition or platform.

Promotional codes can also have expiration dates, geographic limits, participation requirements, or other terms. An old event code is not guaranteed to work simply because it has never been used.

How to redeem a 25-character Minecraft code
- Open the official redemption page at minecraft.net/redeem.
- Enter the code exactly as printed. A standard prepaid code uses 25 characters, usually displayed in five groups of five.
- Select Submit, Next, or the equivalent button shown on the page.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that should permanently receive the game or reward.
- Check the product description shown before confirming. Make sure it is the item you expected.
- Confirm the redemption.
- Keep the confirmation email, receipt, card, and a screenshot of the result in case support is needed.
- Launch Minecraft or the Minecraft Launcher using the same Microsoft account.
Check the account before you confirm
The Microsoft account selected during redemption matters more than the device used to enter the code. Check the displayed email address, gamertag, or account profile before pressing Confirm. Do not redeem a valuable code while signed in to a parent’s, friend’s, or secondary account unless that is where the content is intended to remain.
Most redeemed game licenses, Minecoins, and promotional items are tied to the account used during confirmation. Moving them later is not guaranteed and depends on the product, region, retailer, and support policy.

Use the same official Minecraft redemption page:
- Go to minecraft.net/redeem.
- Enter the promotional code.
- Submit it and sign in to, or create, a Microsoft account.
- Review the reward and confirm it.
- Open Minecraft: Bedrock Edition with that Microsoft account.
- Open Dressing Room and look through the relevant character items.
Bedrock downloadable content is not automatically usable in Java Edition or in unrelated Minecraft products. If the promotion has terms, check whether it is limited by date, country, edition, event participation, or platform.
How to claim Minecoins
- Redeem the 25-character code at minecraft.net/redeem.
- Use the Microsoft account connected to the Bedrock profile where you want the currency.
- Start Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
- Open Marketplace.
- Check the Minecoin balance near the top of the Marketplace screen.
Minecoins buy Bedrock Marketplace content such as skin packs, texture packs, worlds, mash-up packs, and other downloadable items. They are not a Minecraft game license and cannot be used as a substitute for owning Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.
Minecraft states that Minecoins purchased through Bedrock or Minecraft.net are associated with the Microsoft account used for the purchase and can carry between Bedrock and Minecraft Legends when the same account is used. Platform-specific restrictions may still apply. See the official Minecoins guidance for current details.

Where the reward appears after redemption
- PC game code: Sign in to the Minecraft Launcher with the redeeming Microsoft account. The PC license includes Java and Bedrock Edition according to the official prepaid-card instructions.
- Minecoins: Open Marketplace in Bedrock Edition and check the balance.
- Skin, cape, hat, or Character Creator item: Open Dressing Room in Bedrock Edition.
- Realms reward: Open the Play or Realms area in Bedrock. The exact screen can vary by product and platform.
- Dungeons or Legends content: Check the applicable game and Microsoft account library.
If an item is not visible immediately, do not assume the code failed. You may be looking in the wrong edition, game, menu, or Microsoft account.

A Microsoft account is required for the standard Minecraft redemption process. Windows PC supports Java and Bedrock, while consoles and mobile devices generally use Bedrock. PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players need both their platform account and a linked Microsoft account for Minecraft features and associated content. Android and iOS players likewise use their Microsoft account for linked Minecraft services.
The platform on which you redeem a code does not change what the code represents. A Bedrock Marketplace item will not become a Java item because it was claimed on a PC, and a PC game-license code is not the same as a console copy of Minecraft.
What to do if the code is invalid
Try these checks before contacting anyone:
- Re-enter the code carefully and remove accidental spaces.
- Check confusing characters such as
0/O,1/I, and5/S. - Confirm whether the code has 25 characters or 10 digits.
- Make sure you are using the route specified for the product. A 10-digit code belongs at xbox.codetocontent.com.
- Check the code’s region, expiration date, and promotional terms.
- Keep the card, receipt, order email, and exact error message.
A retailer may need to fix a code that was never activated at purchase. A promotion sponsor may be responsible for missing, expired, or replacement promotional codes. Microsoft or Minecraft support is more appropriate for account ownership and Microsoft Store redemption issues.
A Java-only gift card purchased before December 1, 2020 may require Minecraft Player Care if it produces an error, according to the official redemption guidance.

What if the code says it was already redeemed?
Check whether you or the gift giver already claimed it, and search your Microsoft account redemption or order history and confirmation emails. It may have been redeemed on a different Microsoft account, by a retailer or reseller, or by someone who obtained the code before it reached you.
Contact the retailer or promotion sponsor with the receipt, order number, card details, and error message. Do not post the code publicly or send it to a website that promises to “verify” it. Minecraft support may use gift-code and transaction records when investigating account issues, but it cannot guarantee recovery or transfer of every redeemed product.
What if the reward does not appear?
- Sign out of Minecraft.
- Fully close Minecraft and the Launcher.
- Confirm that the game is using the Microsoft account that redeemed the code.
- Restart the device.
- Sign in again.
- Check the correct location: Marketplace for Minecoins, Dressing Room for character items, Launcher or library for a PC license, and Realms for a Realms reward.
- Update Minecraft if Marketplace content is missing.
- Check for a service outage if the account and redemption are correct.
Child-account restrictions
A child account may receive a safety or permission message even when the code is valid. Minecraft’s current support information says Microsoft child accounts for children under 9 are blocked from redeeming promotional or in-game downloadable-content codes by default. A family organizer can change the relevant content setting through Microsoft Family Safety or the Xbox Family Settings app by allowing content suitable for age 10 or older.
Allowing code redemption does not automatically allow unrestricted spending, multiplayer, chat, or cross-network play. Those are separate family and platform settings.

If you redeemed the code on the wrong account
Contact the relevant support channel promptly. Provide:

- The code or purchase evidence
- The receipt or order number
- The Microsoft account used by mistake
- The intended Microsoft account
- The redemption date and exact error message
Do not promise yourself that the item can be moved. Transfer eligibility varies by product, account, retailer, region, and support policy. Support may not be able to transfer a redeemed license, Minecoin balance, or promotional reward.

- Retailer: The code was not activated, the purchase is disputed, or the card needs replacement.
- Promotion sponsor: A promotional code was never delivered, has expired, is missing, or needs replacement. Minecraft says sponsors usually handle distribution and availability for third-party promotions.
- Microsoft Support: The issue concerns a Microsoft or Xbox code, account ownership, or Microsoft Store redemption.
- Minecraft Player Care: The issue concerns Minecraft account access or a Minecraft-specific redemption problem after you have gathered your purchase evidence.
Codes bought from unauthorized websites, unofficial resellers, social media sellers, or another player are especially risky. Minecraft says it cannot provide account support for purchases made through non-authorized sources. Contact the seller or payment provider instead, and do not buy a replacement from another unofficial marketplace.
Redeem safely
Enter codes only on official Minecraft, Microsoft, or Xbox domains. Minecraft will not require a code generator, a third-party “claim tool,” or a stranger’s account. Never publish an unused code in a screenshot or send it to someone offering unofficial verification.
If you are buying Minecoins rather than claiming a code, use the official Minecraft Marketplace page. Minecoins are intended for Bedrock Marketplace content, not Java Edition purchases. Offers, prices, subscriptions, taxes, and regional availability can change, so check the official page before buying.

Can I redeem a Minecraft code without a Microsoft account?
No. The standard Minecraft redemption process requires an active Microsoft account. You can create a free account, then redeem the code while signed in to the account that should receive it.

Can I redeem a Minecraft code from my phone?
Yes. Open the official redemption page in a mobile browser, enter the code, and sign in to the intended Microsoft account. You still need to use the appropriate Minecraft or platform account afterward to access the reward.
Can I use a Java code on Xbox?
Not as a general rule. Java & Bedrock prepaid instructions apply to the PC license. Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and mobile versions generally use Bedrock and have separate platform requirements.
Can I transfer a redeemed Minecraft code to another account?
Do not assume so. Transfer options depend on the product and support policy. Contact the relevant retailer, promotion sponsor, Microsoft Support, or Minecraft Player Care with proof of purchase and both account details.
Where are Minecoins stored?
Minecoins appear in Marketplace in Bedrock Edition when you use the Microsoft account that redeemed them. They are not Java Edition currency.
Why is my promotional skin missing?
Confirm that you are using the redeeming Microsoft account, open Bedrock Edition, and check Dressing Room. Also check the promotion’s edition, region, expiration, and platform terms.
What if I lost the card or receipt?
Contact the retailer or promotion sponsor, but recovery may be difficult without purchase evidence. Do not share the code with unofficial recovery or verification services.
Can I redeem a code someone sent me online?
Only if you trust the source and understand what it unlocks. Redeem it yourself on the official Minecraft, Microsoft, or Xbox page; never give the code or your account password to another person.
