Start with the Xbox app

If Minecraft is already open

- Xbox: Sign out through the Xbox profile controls, sign in to the intended Xbox/Microsoft profile, and reopen Minecraft.

- Open Order History.
- Look for the Minecraft purchase, subscription, or related transaction.
- Compare the purchase details with the edition and platform you use.
The account whose Order History contains the expected Minecraft transaction is usually the account you need. This is especially useful when a parent, child, or partner has a separate Microsoft account and several accounts are used on the same console or PC.
Do not assume that a missing purchase always means the account is wrong. The transaction may have been made through a different store, platform account, family member’s account, or an older Mojang purchasing system. Check your receipts and the relevant platform’s purchase history as well.

Use Microsoft’s forgotten-username lookup
If you cannot remember the Microsoft email at all, use Microsoft’s official forgotten username lookup. It can search for an account using a security phone number or alternate email address previously added to that account.
- Open Microsoft’s username-recovery tool.
- Enter the recovery phone number or alternate email address.
- Request and enter the verification code.
- Review the masked username hint Microsoft provides.
For privacy, Microsoft normally shows only a partial address—for example, its first character followed by asterisks and the email domain. That may not reveal the complete email, but it can distinguish between likely accounts and tell you whether the address uses Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, or another domain.
Check the account’s email aliases
You may be looking for the wrong address even after finding the correct Microsoft account. Microsoft accounts can have multiple email aliases. Aliases share the same password, contacts, subscriptions, online storage, and account settings, and more than one alias may work when signing in to Microsoft services.

After signing in, open the account-information area or Manage how you sign in. Review the listed aliases and identify the primary alias. A Microsoft account might have started with a Gmail address, later acquired an Outlook address, and still accept both for sign-in.
This explains why a Minecraft player may remember one email while the Xbox app, a receipt, or an account page shows another. The addresses can belong to the same Microsoft account rather than to separate Minecraft accounts.
Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use different names
Minecraft’s visible account name depends on the edition:
- Bedrock Edition uses the Xbox/Microsoft gamertag.
- Java Edition uses a Java profile name.
Neither name reveals the complete Microsoft email address. A player can also have a Java profile name that differs from the Xbox gamertag, which can make an otherwise correct account look unfamiliar. Confirm the account through its Microsoft email, aliases, Order History, or expected game access—not by name alone.
If you are locked out or think the account was compromised

If the Sign-in Helper does not restore access, use Microsoft’s account-recovery form. You will need:
- a working contact email where Microsoft can send its response;
- old passwords you remember;
- Xbox console or profile information, if applicable;
- details about other Microsoft services used with the account; and
- as much accurate account history as possible.
Complete the form from a device and location you previously used with the account when possible. Microsoft says recovery results are generally sent to the working contact email within 24 hours, but submitting the form does not guarantee that access will be restored. Provide consistent, truthful information rather than guessing at details.
What Minecraft and Microsoft Support can—and cannot—tell you
Support can direct you to account diagnostics, username lookup, and recovery procedures. It will not simply disclose an account’s email address to anyone who asks. Identity verification is required to protect the account, and Microsoft support agents are not permitted to send password-reset links or access and change account details on your behalf.
Do not give your password, verification code, recovery code, or payment details to a third-party website claiming it can identify your Minecraft email. Use only Minecraft Help, Microsoft Support, the Xbox app, and the Microsoft account dashboard.
