The Discord Console is the Console panel inside Developer Tools. On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + I; on macOS, press Option + Command + I. Then select Console. If the shortcut does not work in the desktop app, use Discord PTB or Canary, or open Discord in your browser and use the browser’s Developer Tools.
What “Discord console” means
In most troubleshooting questions, the Discord Console means the JavaScript log panel inside Chromium/Electron Developer Tools. It can show errors related to loading, connections, voice, activities, and other app functions. Discord Support may ask for relevant Console errors when diagnosing a problem; its console troubleshooting guide explains this workflow.

It is different from:
- Developer Mode: an in-app Discord setting that exposes IDs and other developer-oriented options.
- The Discord Developer Portal: the website used to manage applications, bots, and integrations.
- A server or bot console: an administrative or command interface.
- Command Prompt or Terminal: an operating-system command line.
Open the Console in Discord on Windows
- Open Discord and reproduce the problem, if you are collecting an error.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + I.
- When Developer Tools appears, select the Console tab.
- Look for messages created when the problem occurred, especially relevant warnings or errors.
Discord’s current troubleshooting instructions specifically direct desktop users to use the PTB or Canary client for this workflow. The Stable client may not expose Developer Tools, or the shortcut may be unavailable in a particular build.
PTB menu alternative
In Discord PTB, you can also try View → Developer → Toggle Developer Tools. This menu route is documented in Discord’s local development documentation.

Open the Console in Discord on macOS
- Open Discord PTB or Canary if the Stable client does not respond.
- Reproduce the issue if necessary.
- Press Option + Command + I.
- Select Console in Developer Tools.
Do not confuse Option with Control. Discord’s documented macOS shortcut uses Option + Command + I.
Open the Console in Discord’s browser version
Discord in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or another desktop browser uses the browser’s own Developer Tools. The exact labels and shortcuts can vary, but the browser menu is a dependable fallback.

- Windows/Linux: press Ctrl + Shift + I, then select Console.
- macOS: press Command + Option + I, then select Console.
- Open the Console directly: use Ctrl + Shift + J on Windows/Linux, or Command + Option + J on macOS.
In Chrome, the menu path is ⋮ → More Tools → Developer Tools. These shortcuts and menu instructions are listed in Chrome’s official DevTools documentation. Other browsers may call the option Developer Tools, Web Developer, or Inspect.
If Ctrl+Shift+I does nothing
- Check the client. Discord’s official support workflow currently specifies PTB or Canary for desktop Console access. Download test clients only from Discord’s official testing-client information or its download page.
- Try the menu. In PTB, use View → Developer → Toggle Developer Tools.
- Focus Discord first. Click the Discord window before pressing the shortcut.
- Check the keyboard combination. Verify that you are pressing the letter I, not L. A nonstandard keyboard layout or a laptop’s function-key behavior can also affect shortcuts.
- Look for shortcut conflicts. Graphics overlays or other applications may intercept the same keys. You may need to disable the conflicting overlay shortcut temporarily.
- Use the browser version. Open Discord on the web and use the browser’s Developer Tools menu.
PTB is Discord’s beta/public test build and is usually the better first choice for troubleshooting. Canary is the alpha channel, with more frequent updates and a higher risk of instability. If a test client causes problems, return to Stable for normal use.

When Developer Tools opens but Console is missing
The Console may be hidden because the panel is narrow or grouped under an overflow menu.
- Open the Developer Tools panel overflow menu.
- Choose Console.
- Widen the docked tools or undock the window if the tab is not visible.
- In a browser, use the direct Console shortcut where supported.
How to find the useful Discord error
Opening the Console is only the first step. To collect useful output:

- Enable Preserve log if the problem occurs after a reload or navigation.
- Reproduce the issue once.
- Use the filter field to search terms such as
error,voice,RTC, or a specific error code. - Focus on messages that appeared immediately after the problem, including warnings as well as red errors.
- Copy or screenshot the smallest relevant excerpt.
An empty Console does not necessarily mean nothing happened. The event may have occurred before Developer Tools opened, a filter may be hiding it, the Console may have been cleared, or the problem may not yet have been reproduced. Reload only when it will not interrupt a call or discard unsaved work.
Likewise, a large number of red errors does not prove that every message caused your problem. Extensions, blocked third-party requests, network retries, voice and media systems, GPU components, and unrelated background activity can all produce noise. The error closest in time to the reproduced failure is usually the most useful starting point.

What to send Discord Support
If Support asks for Console output, reproduce the issue first and provide the relevant error text or screenshot. Discord’s voice connection troubleshooting guidance is one example of this kind of diagnostic request.
- Include the exact error and its surrounding context.
- Include a timestamp or explain what action triggered it.
- Redact authentication tokens, cookies, authorization headers, private messages, personal identifiers, and unnecessary account or server details.
- Follow the support agent’s instructions for uploading logs or diagnostic files.
Can you open the Discord Console on iPhone or Android?
The desktop Developer Tools workflow and its keyboard shortcuts do not apply to the ordinary Discord mobile apps. Discord documents a separate mobile Debug Logs route for supported development and troubleshooting scenarios:

- Open Appearance.
- Enable Developer Mode.
- Look for Debug Logs in the DEV ONLY section.

Also avoid sharing authentication tokens, cookies, authorization headers, private message contents, or full screenshots that expose personal information. A legitimate support request should not require you to publish secrets.
Quick decision guide
- Discord in a browser: use the browser’s Developer Tools.
- PTB or Canary desktop: press the platform shortcut, then choose Console; PTB also has the View menu route.
- Stable desktop: try the shortcut, but use PTB, Canary, or the browser if Developer Tools are unavailable.
- iPhone or Android: use mobile Debug Logs where applicable; there is no equivalent desktop Console shortcut in the normal app.

Why doesn’t Discord Developer Mode open the Console?
Developer Mode and Developer Tools are separate features. Developer Mode exposes IDs and related options; the JavaScript Console is inside Developer Tools.

Why does the shortcut work in Chrome but not in the Discord desktop app?
The browser controls its own Developer Tools, while Discord’s desktop access depends on the client channel and build. Discord’s current troubleshooting workflow points desktop users to PTB or Canary.
Can I use F12 to open the Discord Console?
Do not rely on F12 for the desktop client. Use Discord’s documented shortcut or the PTB menu path; in a browser, use the browser’s Developer Tools menu if the shortcut is unavailable.
Is PTB safer than Canary?
Both are official Discord test clients, but PTB is the beta/public test build and Canary is the more unstable alpha channel. PTB is generally the better first troubleshooting choice.
