No. As of August 18, 2026, VRChat is not available as a native app on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. You can use an Xbox controller to play VRChat on a compatible Windows PC, but the Xbox console itself is not a supported VRChat platform.
VRChat’s official support information does not announce an Xbox release, beta, or launch date. Its supported access methods include Windows PC, SteamVR, Meta Quest, Pico, Viveport, iOS, and Android—not Xbox consoles. See VRChat’s console-support page and official getting-started guide.

Is VRChat on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S?
No. There is no official Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S version of VRChat, and the standard VRChat client cannot be downloaded directly to an Xbox console.
Xbox’s newer hardware does not change the answer: Series X|S is not listed as a supported VRChat platform. A search result, forum post, or video claiming that VRChat is “coming soon” to Xbox should not be treated as an announcement unless it links to an official VRChat or Microsoft listing.

VRChat says it is interested in supporting more platforms and acknowledges requests for console versions, but it has not confirmed an Xbox port or release timetable.
Is VRChat on Xbox Game Pass?
There is no official indication in VRChat’s current platform information that it is an Xbox Game Pass title. More importantly, a Game Pass listing would not automatically mean that the game runs natively on Xbox hardware. The game would still need an Xbox-compatible version.
VRChat’s official materials also do not identify Xbox Cloud Gaming as a supported way to access the service. Unofficial browser, remote-desktop, or cloud-PC methods may exist as experiments, but they are not equivalent to an Xbox release and can suffer from latency, input problems, poor performance in crowded worlds, account limitations, or service changes. They are not a reliable supported solution.
Can you use an Xbox controller to play VRChat?
Yes—but on a compatible Windows PC, not on an Xbox console. VRChat documents XInput support for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series controllers. The controller can be connected by USB or, where supported by the computer, Bluetooth.

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Does VRChat run natively on Xbox? | No. |
| Can an Xbox controller control VRChat? | Yes, on a compatible Windows PC. |
| Is a VR headset required? | No. Desktop mode works without one. |
| Is Xbox an officially supported VRChat platform? | No. |
“Xbox-like controls” in VRChat’s documentation refers to the control layout and supported input devices. It does not mean that the Xbox One or Series X|S console can run VRChat. See the gamepad documentation and controls guide.
How to play VRChat without a VR headset
You do not need virtual-reality hardware to use VRChat. Desktop mode runs on a sufficiently capable Windows PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse, or gamepad.
- Use a Windows PC capable of running VRChat.
- Install VRChat through Steam or another officially supported PC distribution.
- Sign in or create a VRChat account.
- Connect an Xbox One or Xbox Series controller, or use keyboard and mouse.
- Start VRChat in desktop mode.
Performance varies by hardware, world complexity, avatar content, and the number of people in an instance. If performance is poor, lower graphics settings, close background applications, and try a less crowded or less visually complex world. A controller may also feel less precise than a mouse and keyboard for menus and camera movement.

| Platform | Typical access |
|---|---|
| Windows PC | Desktop mode or PCVR |
| SteamVR | VR through a compatible PC and headset |
| Meta Quest | Standalone VR, with some platform-specific limitations |
| Pico | Standalone VR where available and supported |
| Viveport | Supported PCVR access |
| iOS and Android | Mobile access, subject to device and content limitations |
“Officially supported” does not mean every device in an ecosystem offers identical features. Worlds and avatars can have separate PC, Android, or iOS builds. A mobile or standalone user may see a fallback or impostor avatar when the original avatar is not optimized for that platform, and some worlds may not be available across every platform. VRChat explains these differences in its platforms documentation.
Can Xbox players meet people in VRChat?
Yes, if they access VRChat through a supported device such as a Windows PC, Meta Quest, Pico headset, or supported mobile device. VRChat supports cross-platform interaction among supported platforms, so a PC user and a Quest or mobile user may be able to join the same instance.
They cannot join from an Xbox console, because there is no Xbox VRChat client. Cross-platform access also has limits: a world needs a compatible build for the platforms involved, and users may not see identical avatars or content.

Best VRChat alternatives for Xbox owners
| Your situation | Best option | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You already own a gaming PC | Windows desktop mode with your Xbox controller | No VR immersion; performance depends on the PC |
| You want the simplest headset-based setup | Standalone Meta Quest or Pico | Requires buying a headset and has platform-specific limitations |
| You want the fullest VR experience | Windows PC plus a SteamVR-compatible headset | Highest cost and setup complexity |
| You own only an Xbox console | No official direct option | You need another supported device |
Windows PC with an Xbox controller
This is usually the most practical route if you already have a sufficiently capable gaming PC. You may not need to buy a new controller: VRChat supports Xbox controllers on PC, and desktop mode does not require a headset. Use keyboard and mouse if controller bindings feel incomplete or cumbersome.

Standalone Meta Quest or Pico
A supported standalone headset is the closest substitute for a simple, console-like VR setup. It avoids the need for a gaming PC, but it requires wearing a headset and may offer less avatar and world compatibility than PCVR. Check regional availability and current app support before buying a Pico device.
PCVR
For higher graphical quality and broader PC content, use a capable Windows computer with a SteamVR-compatible headset. This option generally requires more money, setup, and troubleshooting than desktop mode or standalone VR.
