How do I remove mods from CurseForge? It depends on the game and what you mean by “remove”: in a Minecraft modpack, CurseForge documents how to disable a mod; for Hytale, the app offers a Delete Mod option. Uninstalling CurseForge itself is separate and leaves installed mods and content in place.

Choose between disabling a mod and deleting it

Action What it does Where it applies
Disable Stops a mod from being used in a supported profile; it does not mean the mod file has been deleted. Minecraft modpacks
Delete Removes the mod file. Hytale has a documented in-app Delete Mod action; manually installed Hytale mods can be removed from their folder.
Uninstall CurseForge Removes the app, not installed mods or content. CurseForge Support says they “will remain installed.” The app itself

The uninstall behavior is described in CurseForge Support’s Uninstalling the CurseForge App article, modified August 4, 2025.

Disable a mod in a Minecraft modpack

  1. In the CurseForge app, open My Modpacks and select the modpack.
  2. Open the pack’s three-dot menu and choose Profile Options.
  3. Enable Allow content management for this profile, then click Done.
  4. Open Installed Mods and toggle off the mod you do not want to use.

This is a disable procedure, not a documented permanent-delete action for an individual Minecraft mod. CurseForge’s instructions are in its Minecraft Getting Started support page.

Understand the profile trade-off

With content management enabled, you cannot update the modpack or change it to another version. If you later turn content management off and update the pack, custom changes may be overwritten. CurseForge notes that updating into a new profile can preserve the customized profile; consider that option before changing an established pack.

Delete a Hytale mod

Mod installed through CurseForge

  1. Open the mod’s page in the CurseForge app.
  2. Open its menu and select Delete Mod.

Mod installed manually

Find the Hytale mod folder and delete the mod file. If the removed mod still appears in the app, scan the folder. CurseForge provides these steps in its Hytale mods support article.

Find the Minecraft modding folder if you need the files

CurseForge lists these default locations for its Minecraft modding folder. Replace [user] with your account name:

  • Windows: C:Users[user]curseforgeminecraft
  • Mac: /Users/[user]/Documents/curseforge/minecraft/
  • Linux: /home/[user]/Documents/curseforge/minecraft

If you chose Advanced setup, you may have selected a different folder. The Minecraft Getting Started guide covers the default folder locations.

If deleting an addon fails

For a failed addon deletion, CurseForge suggests restarting the app, repairing folder permissions, and checking in Task Manager that the game is no longer running. These are troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes; see the Troubleshooting Addons page.

Check game and app support

CurseForge’s Getting Started page, modified May 19, 2026, lists Minecraft Java Edition among supported games and notes that available games vary by operating system and app version. The steps above are specific to the game types described; do not assume the same controls apply to every CurseForge game.
