Replay Mod’s documented loader split is Fabric for Minecraft 1.14 and later, and Forge for 1.12.2 and older. Rendering a video additionally requires FFmpeg.
Check the CurseForge profile before installing Replay Mod
Open the Minecraft profile or modpack you want to use in the CurseForge app. CurseForge’s support instructions explain how to install a modpack from Browse and open it from My Modpacks: CurseForge Minecraft support. Check the profile’s Minecraft version and mod loader before downloading Replay Mod; a file for a different game version is incompatible with that profile.
Replay Mod’s documentation specifies Fabric for Minecraft 1.14 and later, and Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2 and older. It does not establish support for every Minecraft version, loader combination, or current release. Check that the specific Replay Mod file lists the version and loader used by your CurseForge profile. The project listing reports a last update of November 26, 2024, so it should not be treated as proof of compatibility with versions released afterward: Replay Mod on CurseForge.
Install the mod in the right CurseForge instance

In CurseForge, open the intended Minecraft profile and confirm its Minecraft version and loader in the profile details or settings.

Download a Replay Mod JAR that matches that version and the loader guidance above.

Place the JAR in the
modsfolder belonging to that specific CurseForge instance. Do not place it in a different Minecraft installation’s folder. -
Launch the profile. Replay Mod is client-side, so it belongs in your client’s mods folder; the documentation does not require installing it on the server.
If Replay Viewer does not appear in the Minecraft main menu, first verify the JAR, Minecraft version, profile, and loader all match. CurseForge describes changing a profile’s game version or loader in its Advanced settings; changing them can affect the rest of the modpack, so check the profile requirements before doing so.

Record a gameplay session
Turn on recording before you join
In Minecraft, open Replay Settings and enable recording. With recording enabled, Replay Mod automatically records gameplay sessions. Start recording when you join the world or server: the mod documentation warns that starting midway through a session leaves out data needed by the replay.
A chat message normally indicates that recording has started, and an on-screen indicator is shown. Both can be disabled in settings, so their absence is not conclusive if you have turned them off. Press M during play to add an event marker to the recording.
Finish saving before opening the replay
When you leave the world or server, allow the replay save to finish if the game prompts you. Then open Replay Viewer from Minecraft’s main menu to find and load the saved session. The world detail captured depends on loaded chunks: in singleplayer, the documentation says loaded chunks within render distance are recorded; on servers, it depends on the server’s view distance.
Open and move around in Replay Viewer
From the main menu, select Replay Viewer, choose a recording, and select Load. In the replay, the documented default camera movement controls are:

Replay Mod also documents camera roll controls and the ability to spectate entities. Use Minecraft’s Controls menu to check or change the key bindings, especially if another mod or your own settings have changed them.

Watching a replay does not itself export a video. To render one, Replay Mod requires FFmpeg. Its documentation describes these platform-specific options: Replay Mod documentation.

Linux: Install FFmpeg through your distribution’s package manager; the guide gives
apt install ffmpegas an example.
CurseForge profiles use their own instance directories, so make FFmpeg accessible to the Minecraft instance running Replay Mod. The exact directory can differ by launcher and setup.
Troubleshoot the common setup problems

Replay Mod does not load: Check that the JAR is in the intended profile’s
modsfolder and matches that profile’s Minecraft version and loader. -
No recording appears: Confirm recording was enabled before joining, then leave the world and wait for saving to finish before checking Replay Viewer.

The replay lacks parts of the world: Captured world data is limited by loaded chunks; server recordings also depend on the server’s view distance.
