To deal more damage in Warframe, improve your weapon’s Mods, make those Mods fit its capacity and polarities, and tailor the damage type to the mission’s faction and enemy defenses. There is no single best build for every weapon and target: check the Star Chart’s Suggested Damage and adjust when a different defensive layer is slowing your kills.
Build the weapon around its Mods
Mods are the main way to improve a weapon. Digital Extremes’ Quick Start Guide explains that Mods add power and customization, and that combat effectiveness largely depends on the Mods equipped. Use the weapon’s stats and each Mod’s description to decide what to change; a damage build that suits one weapon is not automatically right for another.

Make capacity and polarity work for you
Weapon levels increase the capacity available for Mods. A Mod in a matching-polarity slot costs less capacity, while Fusion raises a Mod’s rank and effectiveness but also increases its capacity drain. The Warframe Support Mod Guide explains these mechanics. Prioritize useful Mods, fit them into available capacity, and rank them up when the extra drain fits your build.
Choose damage for the mission
Before choosing damage types, check the Star Chart mission node. Its readout shows the faction and average enemy level, and Update 36 added faction vulnerabilities and resistances as Suggested Damage. Digital Extremes’ Update 36: Jade Shadows patch notes list different vulnerabilities for the default Grineer, Corpus, and Infested factions, with separate rules for other factions and sub-factions. The notes’ direct guidance is: “Vulnerabilities are now listed in The Star Chart mission nodes!”

Use the in-game recommendation as a starting point, then account for the specific target. A faction or sub-faction can have a different matchup, so a damage choice that works well in one mission may not be the best choice in another.
Target the defense that is slowing your kills
Update 36 organizes enemy defenses into Health, Armor, Shields, and Overguard. Damage types, status effects, and abilities interact with these layers differently. For example, Magnetic hinders Shields, Corrosive strips Armor, and Viral amplifies damage to Health, according to the Update 36 notes. If an enemy is taking too long to defeat, identify which layer is holding and adjust your damage or abilities accordingly.

Armor stripping is a tool, not an automatic requirement
Update 36 capped enemy Armor at 2,700, with a maximum 90% damage reduction from that armor system, and said partial armor stripping should be more feasible. These figures concern enemy Armor, not player Armor. Full armor stripping is therefore not a universal prerequisite for high damage; consider partial stripping when Armor is the obstacle, but judge the build against the actual target and mission.

- Inspect the weapon. Check its stats, current Mod capacity, and Mod descriptions. Choose damage-oriented Mods that fit the weapon and the result you want.
- Improve the Mod setup. Level the weapon to increase capacity. Use matching-polarity slots where possible, and rank up useful Mods with Fusion when you can accommodate their increased drain.
- Read the mission node. Note the faction and enemy level, then use Suggested Damage to inform your element choices.
- Check the target’s defense. Decide whether Health, Armor, Shields, or Overguard is the layer preventing fast kills, and consider the relevant damage types, status effects, and abilities.
- Reassess as enemies get tougher. Enemy defenses and their scaling rules matter more as levels rise. If Armor is the problem, test whether partial stripping is useful rather than assuming a full strip is necessary.

When two setups both seem viable, compare them against the same four factors:

- Weapon fit: Do the Mods suit the weapon’s stats?
- Mission fit: Do the damage choices account for the faction or sub-faction’s vulnerabilities?
- Target fit: Do they address the active defensive layer?
- Progression fit: Can the weapon’s capacity and your current progression support the setup?
This approach is more reliable than copying a supposed universal damage build. The official guidance provides target-aware modding principles, not one highest-damage loadout for every weapon, player, and mission. Because game balance can change, check the current in-game Suggested Damage display and later patch notes when applying these principles after Update 36.
