First check where the world was stored. For a Realm, you can restore one of its listed saves to roll the Realm back, or download a save as a separate local copy. For a world saved only on a device, recovery depends on the platform and whether a usable device or cloud backup exists; use Minecraft’s platform-specific Backup & Restore instructions rather than guessing a file path.
Start by identifying where the world was stored
A world hosted on a Realm has Realm saves to check. A world stored only on a computer, console, or mobile device instead depends on that platform’s local or cloud backup options. Minecraft’s Backup & Restore index links separate guidance for Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad, Apple-device missing worlds, and cloud saves on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Before taking action, decide whether you want to replace the current world with an earlier state or preserve a second copy. Also check whether the available save is from before the loss or damage: a backup created afterward may not contain the world state you need.
Restore a Minecraft Bedrock Realm backup
For a Realm, Minecraft’s current instructions use the Realm Hub save list. Select the save carefully: restoring it replaces the Realm’s current progress with the selected version, including builds and items made later.

- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Launch Minecraft and choose Play.
- Open Realms, then the relevant Realm Hub.
- Select the World tab and open Manual or Automatic saves.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the save you want and choose Restore save.
- Review the selected save’s date and confirm only if you are willing to replace the current Realm state with it.
Older versions of the interface may show a Saves > Manage saves route instead. Menu labels and availability can differ by game version and platform.
Download a Realm world instead of rolling it back
If you want a separate copy rather than replacing the Realm’s current state, use the Realm slot’s Edit World screen. Choose Download World for the latest version, or open Backups to select a listed saved version. The downloaded world appears in the local worlds list and can be played offline.

- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
Downloading before a restore can preserve the current version where the option is available. Minecraft cautions that Realm backups are not retained indefinitely, so downloading a world before replacing it is a safer way to preserve a version you may need later.
How long Realm backups remain available
Minecraft Help says Realms save automatically every 30 minutes, when a player selects Save & Quit, and when a player disconnects. Its stated retention schedule is:

- The four most recent saves.
- Then one save every four hours during the previous 24 hours.
- One save per day from one to eight days ago.
- One save per week from nine to 36 days ago.
- One save per month from 37 to 121 days ago.
- No saves from 122 or more days ago.
After a subscription expires, the Realm world remains downloadable for 18 months, but associated backups are deleted after 30 days. These are separate deadlines: the world may still be downloadable after its backup history is gone. Do not treat Realm storage as a permanent archive.
Recover a deleted or missing local world
For a world that was not on a Realm, follow the official instructions for the device where it was saved. The Minecraft Backup & Restore index provides platform-specific resources, but the index itself does not provide all recovery steps. Exact file locations, import menus, and cloud-restore procedures vary, so a Windows method should not be assumed to work on Android, Apple devices, or consoles.

- Windows: use Minecraft’s Windows world-backup guidance and check whether a suitable local or cloud copy exists.
- Android: follow the Android-specific backup guidance for the installed version and device.
- iPhone or iPad: use the Apple-device instructions; Minecraft also lists guidance specifically for missing worlds on Apple devices.
- Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox: consult the relevant console cloud-save instructions and verify that a backup from before the loss is available.
If no backup exists, the cited Minecraft guidance does not establish a way to reconstruct a deleted local world. Avoid making changes based on an assumed storage path; use the instructions for your exact platform and edition.

Minecraft Bedrock 26.40 release notes describe cloud backup and cloud sync for Windows worlds, with world data backed up and accessible across devices on that platform. This is a version-specific Windows feature, not evidence that the same recovery option exists on every console or mobile device. Check the installed game version and whether the feature is available in your Windows installation; cloud sync can help only if a usable copy was backed up.
