In Demon’s Souls, bleed deals damage over time for up to 60 seconds; it does not build to a single burst of damage. A weapon’s displayed bleed rating represents the total damage dealt over that minute. For example, a 360 rating works out to 6 damage per second while the effect lasts.
How the bleed damage calculation works
The Demon’s Souls English Wiki weapon-attribute guide describes the bleed rating as damage distributed across 60 seconds. Divide the rating by 60 to find the rate of damage per second:
- 360 bleed: 360 ÷ 60 = 6 damage per second for 60 seconds.
- 120 bleed: 120 ÷ 60 = 2 damage per second for 60 seconds, as the Flamberge reference illustrates.
These are examples of how to read the rating, not a claim that every weapon or target uses the same value. The effect is damage over time, rather than a buildup meter that triggers one large hit.
How to recognize bleeding and stop it
The community-maintained bleed entry describes an audible heartbeat and intermittent blood splashes as cues that a character is bleeding.

- Use Soldier’s Lotus: The weapon-attribute guide lists this item as a way to neutralize bleeding.
- Cast Cure: Cure is also listed as a way to remove the effect.
- Wait, in some cases: The Fandom entry says characters with at least 15 Vitality may sometimes survive by waiting for the effect to expire. Whether that works depends on how much HP remained when bleeding began.
Weapons and enemies associated with bleed
The community-maintained bleed entry names these weapons as examples that can inflict the status:
- Broadsword, Flamberge, Hiltless, Kilij
- Magic Sword “Makoto,” Scimitar, Shotel, Uchigatana
- War Scythe, Falchion
It also lists Silver, Gold, and Black Skeletons, Satsuki, and Selen Vinland among sources of bleed. These are examples, not a complete catalogue of weapons or enemies.

What is—and is not—confirmed across versions
PlayStation identifies Demon’s Souls as a PS5 remake on its official product page. The cited weapon and bleed references do not establish that every status mechanic is identical between the original PS3 game and the remake, and they do not provide a comprehensive list of bleed-resistant or bleed-immune enemies. Avoid assuming the examples above apply to every enemy or boss.
Later Souls games can use different bleed models, which may explain why the rating is easy to misread: in Demon’s Souls, the cited guide presents it as damage spread over time, not a burst on a buildup proc.
