To trade in a console at GameStop, look up its exact model for an estimate, prepare the console and its required components, then take it to a participating store for inspection. The online value is provisional: GameStop decides eligibility, condition, and final value in store, and an offer may expire the same day.
1. Look up the exact console and check the estimate
Use GameStop’s trade-in value search to find the listing that matches your console’s model or variant. Values are product-specific, so do not assume that two consoles in the same family have the same offer. GameStop says the program covers select products and participating stores in the United States and Guam.
Listings can show separate amounts for cash and store credit, and may show regular and Pro member estimates. Treat these as short-lived estimates, not guaranteed payouts. For example, a GameStop PS5 listing generated October 7, 2026 showed offers of up to $310 in regular store credit or $217 cash, and up to $341 in Pro store credit or $238.70 cash. That listing expired at the end of that business day; it illustrates how the quote is presented, not a current standing offer. Check the listing again shortly before you go.
Do not assume a membership bonus shown on one listing applies to consoles generally. The terms on this PS5 listing said the 10% extra in-store credit applied to games and accessories, not systems or consumer electronics.

2. Gather the console and its required parts
GameStop’s trade-in FAQ says to bring the original controller supplied with the console, its power cable, HDMI cable, and any other cords or chargers included with it. Missing components can lower the value, and missing critical parts may lead to rejection.
The original box, printed manual, paper inserts, and promotional materials are not required. If a cable or controller is missing, bringing a replacement does not guarantee that the console will be accepted or receive a particular value; the store determines whether the components are sufficient.

3. Prepare the console before handing it over
Delete personal or sensitive images and stored data, and remove memory cards and items that were not originally part of the product. GameStop’s trade-in instructions disclaim responsibility for data left on a traded device, so make your own backup first if you need anything stored on the console. Charge the device and bring its related cords and chargers, as the listing instructions advise.
4. Take it to a participating store
Bring the console, its required components, and your saved trade summary to a participating GameStop before the estimate expires. The offer example describes availability in select stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Guam; availability can vary by offer and location, so confirm that the specific store participates.

The cited process is an in-store trade: present the item at the store for evaluation. The online lookup gives you a value estimate; it does not complete the console trade.
5. Review the store’s final offer
GameStop inspects the console and determines its condition, eligibility, and trade value. Its terms state, “Product condition and trade value are determined by us in our sole discretion,” and “All trades are final.” Ask the store to confirm the final amount and whether it is cash or store credit before you agree to complete the trade. Once completed, the trade cannot be reversed under those terms.

- Completeness: missing required cords, chargers, or the original controller can affect value or acceptance.
- Payment type: cash and store-credit estimates may differ.
- Timing and location: a displayed estimate may expire that day, and only participating stores handle eligible products.
GameStop says it may change or suspend the program. Confirm the current estimate and store availability before making the trip.
