Battlefield 6 has four multiplayer classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Each centers on a different team job—pushing infantry forward, responding to vehicles, sustaining allies, or gathering information. Your class also shapes your loadout, but you can change loadouts between lives, so you are not locked into one role for an entire match.
What classes do in Battlefield 6
A class is a role-based framework for your multiplayer loadout. It groups weapons, gadgets, a grenade, and a Training Path around a particular way of helping your team. The four options are not a ranking: the useful choice depends on what the match needs and how you prefer to play. EA’s class guide describes these roles and their broad responsibilities.
What each Battlefield 6 class does
Assault: push the frontline
Assault is built for pressuring defenses and helping infantry advance. EA describes Assault players as “frontline killers, who punch through defenses to open the way for the rest of the team.” Choose it when you want to initiate infantry fights and help create openings for a push. EA’s Assault class description
Engineer: respond to vehicles
Engineer is the vehicle-focused class. It is the only class EA identifies as able to repair friendly vehicles, equipment, and weapon placements. That makes it the clearest choice when your team needs vehicle support or you want to focus on the vehicle fight. EA’s Engineer class description

Support: heal, supply, and revive
Support helps allies stay in the fight with healing and supplies. All classes can revive squadmates, but Support can revive any teammate and has access to the Defibrillator for instant revives. Pick Support if your priority is keeping the wider team supplied and bringing allies back into action. EA’s Support class description EA’s beginner guide
Recon: scout and share information
Recon’s contribution is surveillance and enemy information, not simply using a long-range weapon. EA’s class-specific guide discusses enhanced perception and gadget awareness, as well as disruption tools for objective fights where opponents rely on digital defenses. Think of Recon as the class for spotting threats and helping your team understand what is happening around an objective. Exact gadgets can change, so check the live class screen for the current options. EA’s Recon guide

How class choice affects weapons and loadouts
A loadout brings together weapons, gadgets, a grenade, and a Training Path, with class rules shaping what is available. EA’s guide also distinguishes open and closed weapon rules and discusses class signature weapons. That means neither “every class can use every weapon” nor “weapons are always locked to a class” is a safe general rule: the ruleset and signature-weapon mechanics matter. Check the current loadout screen for the mode you are playing. EA’s loadout guide
You can change your loadout between lives, so treat class choice as a match-by-match adjustment rather than a permanent commitment. When deciding, consider these three things:

- How you like to engage: the class role and the weapon handling you prefer.
- What the current loadout offers: available gadgets and Training Path benefits under the rules you are playing.
Which class should you play?
There is no universal best class established by the official class guidance. Use the role that matches the immediate problem your team needs to solve:
- Choose Assault to help force an infantry advance.
- Choose Engineer when friendly vehicle repair or the vehicle fight is central to your plan.
- Choose Support when you want to heal, supply, and revive teammates across the team.
- Choose Recon when scouting and sharing enemy information will help your team.
If the situation changes, switch your loadout between lives and take the role that is more useful then.
